My one-month sabbatical took a time out for the last couple of days to be Nana to two sweet boys that could hardly stand that I was on their property but not with them. Mom and Dad needed to go out of town, so what's a Nana to do, but do what she loves so much -- hang out with her two youngest sweethearts. One of my favorite times with Bryson, the youngest, is reading together. We've been reading "Sticks Across the Chimney" (A Story of Denmark) by Nora Burglon, since the Christmas holidays but because I've been in and out, we had never finished. Yesterday we finished and the climax of the book was exciting and brought sweet tears of joy to both of us. It was a book of mystery and excitement
Here's an excerpt from yesterday's reading, with our kind of conversation that follows:
Grandfather (Bedstefar): Can I trust you to look after this part of the work?" "Oh, yes, Bedstefar," cried the boy eagerly. "I want to help, too," said Siri. "Can she help me screen the dirt?" Erik asked, ALWAYS HAPPY to work with his sister."
That "always happy to work with his sister" made me give a questioning look at Bryson, and he quickly retorted, "That would be a fairy tale or non-fiction for me and Brennan." LOL!
Before I got the boys off to school, we read today's devotional from "Devotions for Kids". It was about "ornamental fruit". Imagine that. Yesterday I posted about "fruit bearing": Thanks, God, for affirming what I already knew. Some fruit looks pretty, but its strictly for looks -- not to be a refreshing, delectable blessing.
Right when I thought I needed to be tucked away, did I hear God's reminder: "I am everywhere! Wherever you are, whatever your situation, I am there. When you’re rejoicing in My presence, I am there. When you’re alone, I am there. When the sun is shining or when it’s raining, I am there. I never take my eyes off of you. I never leave you alone. I never forsake you. I constantly take care of you." Hebrews 13:5 “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
often do we put God in a box that to worship Him is to be sitting in a church pew or in a prayer closet or, like, in my case, tucked away in a sweet spot of serenity and peace. I heard God's sweet voice and instructions from the voices of my grandsons. I heard God's voice reaffirming my post for yesterday about "Bearing good fruit". I welcomed Him into my day as I arose in a flurry of activity getting boys ready for school.
There is no question that "coming away" with God with no distractions is a beautiful thing, but that's not His requirement. Being in touch with our Father is being in touch with His creation -- from His creatures to His kids to His Word and to His sweet voice that says "I am with you in all the in-between times of your life. I will never leave you or forsake you. Where you are...I AM!" SWEET!
Psalm 139:7- Where shall I go from your spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend up into heaven, You are there: if I make my bed in hell, You are there."
God is everywhere!
