My Eagle Wings Came Just in Time
The draw of attraction came by way of an air compressor! I mentioned in a blog a few days ago that I am on a downsizing mission! Whew! How can we accumulate so much stuff? But I have come to terms with it by paying this stuff forward to someone else. Giving away or selling has helped me conquer. I am using social media platforms to get er’ done – Marketplace, Craigslist & Offer Up. I had a large, heavy armoire in my garage that didn't fit in my bedroom so it's been the holder of my grands' Lincoln Logs, Legos, games and other things. I advertise it on those platforms. No one would bite for even $50. So I said FREE on them and within minutes I had more takers than I could shake a stick at! What a blessing! That leads me to today’s blog.
Another item I had for sale was an air compressor. I’ve never used it but toted it from home to home since my Love’s passing on. Time for it to “pass on” too! My buyer, a man bearing a Dallas Cowboys' mask, shows up at my door promptly as promised. He is pleased with his purchase. In parting, I say: “I love your Cowboys mask. They're still my team!" He replies: “Yes, Ma’am. I AM a Dallas Cowboy." What?? My air compressor man turns out to be former Dallas Cowboy safety Kenneth Gant who played and won Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII, 1997 & 1998.
Bless his heart. He witnesses this "prime time" older woman (he’s the same age as my son) tearing up. I’m remembering the Cowboys' glory days. We lived in Dallas when the Cowboys franchise began in the 60’s. We never missed a game on TV even though all home games were blacked out on local TV. My young, agile husband climbed on the roof and adjusted the ginormous antenna until I yelled out "Got it!"
I’m still a fan. I act like a gushy teenager when he shows me His Super Bowl ring and watch. I ask if I can take his picture, and of all things, I can't find my phone. He stands on my front porch waiting for me. I ask him to call me and I hear it ringing and find it tucked in my Bible and journal. I share with him that I was having my devotion time when the doorbell rang. He says: "That's a good place for it!" He tells me that he is a God-fan too, now living in Tampa where he pastored for four years and has a food kitchen there. He is here now because he is selling his home here.
Okay, all that info may not impress you, but it impressed me that God sure does care about me and shows it in so many ways. He knew I needed a lift-up and He cheers me on because He is enamored with me. He recognizes my weariness. He sees me overwhelmed with so much to do in a short amount of time to do it. God shows up and turns my weariness song to “I will raise you up on eagle’s wings; Bear you on the breath of dawn; Make you to shine like the sun; And hold you in the palm of My hands.”
Sometimes God uses our discomfort to cause us to fly out of our our comfort zone nest. I did that spiritually when I considered that God just might be giving me new wings that I can fly higher than ever before. He reminded me of His Word: “But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31). Who knew that an air compressor could cause me to soar on this day? Oh, God did!
