No Longer Held Captive

CAPTIVE?? That’s a word that conjures up the vision of a person or animal that has been taken prisoner and is now confined or detained. And, it doesn’t have to be in a prison or cage or trap. Being held captive by our negative thoughts can render us emotionally bound.

Ever spent your days wondering why your thoughts wander to a place of negativity? You aren’t just held captive but are in “solitary confinement”. No one is there to release you from your prison of defeat and worry. I am on the bandwagon today. God’s bandwagon that has a sound system that belts out: “Don’t listen to the lies of the enemy because he wants to take you CAPTIVE to those voices!”

2 Corinthians 10:5 says: “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into CAPTIVITY to the obedience of Christ.” YES! I take those words to heart. I WILL NOT be bound by the enemy’s tactics to hold me captive to his lies!

Don’t listen to the lies of the enemy. He has one goal in mind, and that’s to take us, and our thoughts – CAPTIVE – always wanting us to think less of ourselves. God is always for us and reminds us that even when we feel spent and insignificant and we’ve let the enemy take our hearts CAPTIVE, God will not have it. Our captivity is not too much for Him.

“My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness (our messes).”
2 Corinthians 12:9

Are you wrapped and bound in lies today? In this beautiful season of Lent, we are inching our way closer to Holy Week when we will celebrate freedom from captivity – of the death and burial of our Savior and Lord. Talk about “captivity”! His resurrection represents our freedom from anything that holds us bound.

But, before Jesus’ death and resurrection, in John 11, we hear about another one who broke free from death. It was nearing Passover. Jesus was told that Lazarus, one of His best friends, was dead. Lazarus was held captive by cloths, a grave, and a stone.

BUT Jesus! Jesus ordered: “Remove the stone!” and with a loud voice, Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” He came out, his feet bound. and his hands tied, and his face covered with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Untie him and let him go.”

I am declaring that to you and me today. “Be untied and GO!” May we “soldier up” – putting on the full armor of God and boldly declare: “I will no longer be held captive to the lies of the enemy!” Jesus is here today ready to unbind us from our captivity. All those lies, regrets, and mistakes, can be released. I sense Jesus leaning in close, untying all the lies of the enemy and telling us to “COME OUT!” We are free!

We are no longer held CAPTIVE. Satan is rendered NULL AND VOID. Our chains have been broken and we have been set free. I declare by God’s Word that never fails, “Those lies, thoughts and emotions are gone, in the mighty Name of Jesus!” No longer can those negative voices hold us captive. Free at last. Free at last. Thank God, Almighty, we are free at last!!!
