Last Monday, Memorial Day, knowing the sacrifices made by our men and women who gave their lives for our liberties, we wanted to do something worthwhile.
We had heard about the inspirational, new and true story movie, UNSUNG HERO. It didn’t disappoint. It follows the courageous journey of the Smallbone family. You’re probably already familiar with famous siblings, Rebecca St. James and her brothers Luke and Joel Smallbone -- For King + Country musical group.
The movie gave us an inside look at what their family went through to get where they are today. From losses to miracles, the Smallbone family learned the importance of faith, love, and perseverance.
Because of financial failures, the family learned how to hold on to God’s promises when they didn’t know where their next meal was coming from.
I urge you to see the movie as you’ll see the family sitting in their living room that had no furniture and saying childlike prayers and then seeing miracles take place.
The parents didn’t hide their circumstances from their kids. They invited them to be part of the solution. They created a space for God to move and for their children to experience His provision and love first-hand. They did it in a way that made them feel safe.
I related to their gift of family during times of uncertainty. To see where God brought the Smallbone family was incredible – multiple Dove Awards, Grammys, and more number-one songs than most artists.
I can’t help but think that the love and bond their family shared(s) is still their greatest blessing and achievement. It was a faith journey with rewards that exceeded their imaginations.
Their struggle is not unlike what many families face today with job uncertainty, relationship problems, and trials. We all need rock-solid faith and love to sustain us.
At the conclusion of the movie, was the quote: ‘If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.” Mother Teresa. That was the Smallbone family.
The family continued to honor God with their lives and careers. The tough times bonded them closer than ever. Isn’t that what we want? To have unwavering faith, commitment to family, and resolve to never give up!
This movie is a must-see. The packed audience gave applause at the conclusion of the movie. I'm sure you will applaud too, when you see it. The applause is really toward our God Who deserves the praise for His marvelous works in our lives.
