A Walk Through the Word

I can’t help myself. I am now a proponent of the Museum of the Bible and sense I need to encourage my friends to make it a MUST-SEE experience. The Green Family that created Hobby Lobby and Mardel’s are the primary funders for this incredible project.

As soon as you step through the doors, you’re greeted by the sheer magnitude of God’s Word displayed in ways you’ve never seen before. From the very first chapter to the final verse, this museum takes you on a journey that will stir your soul and awaken your spirit.

One of the most captivating experiences is the virtual reality ride that literally takes you above and beyond. You stand, secured in place, as the ride lifts you over the nation’s capital. Below you, monuments, federal buildings, and memorials come to life, each one engraved with Bible verses that have been etched into the stone and steel of our nation's history. It’s a reminder that, even in today’s world, God’s Word remains a powerful, unshakable foundation.

But the experience doesn’t end there. Put on a virtual reality headset and find yourself transported to the ancient streets of Jerusalem. It’s almost as if you can reach out and touch the stones where Jesus once walked, feel the atmosphere of the Temple, and witness the passion of His final days. From the intricate details of the Dead Sea Scrolls to the Gutenberg Bible, you’ll see how the Scriptures have been faithfully passed down through generations.

The heart of the museum, with the history of the Bible as a book, we found a full-sized replica of the Gutenberg press. An actor gave a demonstration of the press, printed off a page of the Bible from the intricacy of many individual letters on moveable type. The first printing of Gutenberg was about 160–180 copies that took 4–5 years. And, yay, I asked for that page the actor printed, she gave, and I received – soon to be framed!

I haven’t even touched all that the museum holds. We’ll be going back for more in the future. For anyone who loves the Bible, this is a pilgrimage worth making. It’s more than just a museum; it’s a place where your faith is strengthened, your knowledge is deepened, and your heart is drawn closer to the God who authored it all.
