Not Mine But Yours

“For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen." (Matthew 6:13)

How’s that for putting our souls at ease? God is THE ONE in control – no matter what! So, let’s bid Him a sweet “Good night, Lord” and sleep like a baby!

“Easy for you to say”, you might be replying. But we really can take the load off our feet AND our heart and say “Good night, Lord!”

How we end our day makes all the difference in how we sleep. And how we sleep makes all the difference in how we’re able to function the next day. To live with purpose, we need to end our day well.

Each night, after I’m tucked into bed, I listen to a soft-spoken reader from my phone speak words of peace, comfort and inspiration. I promise you, ending our day with a good devotion, a good word, is like a sleeping pill for me.

There is no better word than God’s Word. Back to that scripture that I started with today – the last line from the Lord’s Prayer: “For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

When we end our day with that verse, we’re going to sleep a whole lot better, because it contains incredibly encouraging truths:

God is in control. Politicians aren’t. Other nations aren’t. Our boss isn’t. Our government isn't. God is ultimately in control. The Bible says, “The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; He guides it wherever He pleases” (Proverbs 21:1).

That’s why the world changes when God’s people pray. He’s waiting for us to talk to Him and surrender the burdens that are keeping us from rest.

God's family wins in the end! When we read the last chapter of the Bible, we discover that God wins. If the last thing we look at before we go to bed is either the news or late-night TV hosts talking about the news, then we’ll go to bed depressed. But if we go to bed with God’s truth playing in our head, then we’ll go to bed with peace.

Holocaust survivor Corrie Ten Boom said, “If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. If you look at Christ, you’ll be at rest.”

Where are you looking to find rest? Before you end your day, remind yourself of God’s truth. Say to Him, “God, you’re in control. Good night, Lord. I’ll see you in the morning.”

Then, sleep in peace. Good night, Moon! Good night, Stars! Good night, Father God!
