For years, I enjoyed watching the classic television show "To Tell the Truth". The premise was simple but captivating. Three contestants stood before a panel, all claiming to be the same person with an extraordinary career or life story.
As questions were asked, two were impostors, leaving the panelists to discern who was telling the truth. In the end, the host would utter those famous words: "Will the real ______ please stand up?"
It was a moment of clarity—a line drawn between truth and deception. But as I reflect on that show today, I wonder, are we still asking that same question?
We live in a time when truth feels muddled, especially with accusations of dishonesty surrounding both presidential candidates. But this isn't just about politics. The question goes deeper: does truth-telling still matter, and is it a pivotal character trait that should be expected of all of us?
My lightening fast mind thought of George Washington, our first president's famous words: "I cannot tell a lie!" Shouldn't that be a statement we all should express and live by?
In a world where it seems easier to bend the truth or conceal it altogether, being a person of honor and integrity feels more vital than ever.
The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 12:22, "The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy." It's not just about what we say, but about living lives marked by honesty -- whether we're in politics or simply interacting with family, friends, or coworkers.
Today, we need real people of integrity to stand up -- not to impress, but to inspire. We all play a role in upholding the truth, no matter how inconvenient it may be. So, will the real person of honor and integrity please stand up? Please let it be me and you!
