September 1, 2001 was a day marked by loss, sacrifice, and unimaginable courage. Yet, even in the ashes, there was light. Heroes rose. Strangers became brothers. And a nation, though shaken, stood tall.
We remember the lives lost. But we also remember the love that emerged in the face of hate. The selflessness that shone brighter than any darkness. And as we reflect, we are reminded of the greatest commandment: to love. Love our neighbors. Love our enemies. Love when it’s hard and love when it hurts.
Forgiveness doesn’t come easy, but it is in these moments that it matters most. As C.S. Lewis wisely said, “To be a Christian is to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven it in us.” What a profound truth. We forgive not because it’s deserved, but because we are forgiven. We lay down vengeance, for it is no match for grace.
On this day, let us choose to walk in the footsteps of our Savior, who loved without condition, forgave without hesitation, and gave us hope beyond the grave.
As we remember 9/11, may we be stirred to live out the legacy of love, because in the end, love will always triumph over hate. Hope will always rise above despair.
We will never forget, but let us also never forget what matters most. Love conquers all.
