Take a Nap – God’s Got You!

It’s no secret that I’m an early riser. Always have been. I was the kid who bounced out of bed at 6 a.m. while the rest of the house was still snoozing. That hasn’t changed much over the years. The only difference is that now, I’ve added an important ritual to my day: the mid-day nap.

Back in my working years, I’d sneak in a “micro-nap” — sometimes right in the restroom! (Don’t laugh, desperate times call for creative measures.) These days, I don’t bother hiding. I’ll just slip off to my room, curl up for a bit of R & R, and emerge feeling like a new woman.

And you know what? I’m in excellent company. Daniel slept in the lion’s den. Peter dozed in prison. Jesus Himself snoozed right through a storm. If they could rest in the middle of danger, surely I can close my eyes for 20 minutes without guilt.

Naps aren’t weakness; they’re wisdom. Even God rested! Genesis 2:3 says, “So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all His work that He had done in creation.” Now, the Creator of the universe wasn’t tired. He was modeling a rhythm for us — a cycle of work and rest that keeps life in balance.

Taking a nap is a holy kind of trust. It says, “God’s got this. The world won’t fall apart while I rest.” Jesus put it this way: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

So if you’re running on fumes, take a nap. Lay your burdens down, even if only for half an hour. You’ll wake up lighter, stronger, and ready to face the rest of the day with renewed faith.

Even Jesus napped in a storm — so don’t feel guilty for resting in the middle of your busy day. Lay your burdens down, take a nap, and trust God to handle the rest. God’s got you!
