For the last two weeks, Carl and I have been serving as election officials during early voting, and what a blessing it has been! Next Tuesday, I’ll be an election judge on the official voting day — so yes, you could say I’ve been promoted to “Judge Noble.” (I promise not to let it go to my head!)
Our polling place was tucked inside the Spicewood Springs Library, and in between the ebb and flow of voters, I found myself wandering through that peaceful haven.
Now, I’ll confess — it’s been a long time since I’ve used a library card that wasn’t digital. I’ve checked out audiobooks on the Libby app for road trips, but it’s been years since I’ve walked the aisles of an actual library.
Oh, what I’ve been missing!
A library is a treasure chest of quiet wonder — a peaceful space filled with books, stories, and wisdom from every corner of the world. I browsed through shelves of faith writers and thinking, Donna, why have you been buying books online when you could have borrowed them here for free? (Yes, I gave myself a talking-to right there in the inspirational section.)
Then came the sweetest discovery — the children’s area. There sat parents with their little ones, surrounded by stacks of books, their faces lit by imagination instead of a screen. It reminded me that learning, like faith, grows best when we make time for it.
Maybe that’s why God led me there. Amid all the busyness of elections and news cycles, He reminded me that His Word is the ultimate library — always available, always free, and always life-giving.
“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
So, I think I’ll keep my library card handy… but my Bible even closer. Both open the mind — but only One truly lights the way.
God’s Word and a good library — two of life’s sweetest teachers.
