Your Undivided Attention, Please

I’ll confess — I can be a bit of a squirrel chaser. Not the fuzzy-tailed kind, but the mental kind. One moment I’m writing about God’s goodness, and the next I’m wondering if I forgot to pay THAT bill, or what I should wear to the wedding! Yes -- another wedding is on the horizon! My thoughts can dart around faster than a toddler on a sugar high.

But when I finally slow down — Bible open, heart quiet, -- peace settles in like a soft blanket. That’s when I sense Him near. God doesn’t need fancy words or polished prayers. He just wants me — fully present.

And that’s when it hits me! I get frustrated when someone’s half-listening to me mid-conversation while scrolling through their phone, how must God feel when I do that to Him?

I’ve been on both sides of that awkward moment — the one sitting there, singing “All By Myself” while someone checks their notifications… and the one doing the checking!

We’ve all been there, haven’t we? Somewhere along the line, we traded eye contact for screen time and depth for distraction.

But the same God who created galaxies still leans in, hoping for our undivided attention. I can almost hear Him whisper with a loving chuckle, “Excuse Me, child — could we talk before you check your messages again? I’ve got a few secrets to share and plans to give you for your good.”

Jesus modeled this beautifully. “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went to a solitary place, where He prayed.” — Mark 1:35

Even the Son of God scheduled quiet time with His Father. No alerts. No distractions. Just communion.

So maybe it’s time we silence the noise, set the phone aside, and return to the One who’s been patiently waiting to talk with us — not through a notification, but through His Word.

Because when we give Him our undivided attention… He gives us His unmatched peace.

Heaven’s waiting room doesn’t need Wi-Fi. God’s whisper is best heard when we put the phone down and tune in to His heart.
