I went to church with my grandsons on Sunday. This was the first time the church was fully opened since the pandemic began. Opened, with the exception of limited seating that was maxed out and distanced. What amused me the most was when we walked up to the front doors, tables were set up outside with these bowls of wrist bands on them. Each color had a specific meaning for each one's social desires: Red = “So glad to be here, but please keep a safe distance”; Yellow = “Ready to chat but prefer not touch”; Green = “Ready for hugs & handshakes”. I’m sure introverts loved the red ones; the non-huggers, the yellow ones; and, the social butterflies, the green ones.
I liked that creativity. I also appreciated the thoughtful way the rows of chairs were spaced a good distance apart with two seats between families. Creativity seems to have been a major plus during these times. Sometimes a crisis becomes a strong driver of creativity and innovation. We’ve witnessed it on many levels – families who became creative within their family dynamics – more outdoors activities, indoor games, creative projects and creativity and innovation at national, state and in educational levels here at the start of another school year.
Anyone who spends time on social media has probably noticed that hidden between the political rants and Covid fears are more interesting posts sharing someone’s latest craft-work, recipe, a talent being shown off, or a Facebook Live inspirational talk or some other kind of hilarious situation – many of which have gone viral. Most represent small, but important moments of creativity. I’ve seen many of my friends completing jigsaw puzzles. One couple was so creative that the 1,000-piece puzzles became an opportunity. When they placed a piece, they would offer up a prayer. 1,000 pieces meant 1,000 prayers.
The examples of everyday imagination we see on our timeline may not strike us as creative-with-a-capital-C. Clever family photos, meme creations, or Zoom singalongs may not be the best-of-talents, but we can’t let comparison diminish their value. If creativity is a light, it does not have an on/off switch. My view is that creativity has a dimmer switch, growing from a tiny bit creative to a little creative to creative enough to light up the whole room. I’ve seen that in the way my own family has come up with creative work spaces for school projects and backgrounds for videos.
The truth is we are ALL creators because we were made in the image of OUR Creator. Erwin McManus says: "Creativity should be an everyday experience -- as common as breathing. We breathe, therefore we create.” And on another level of creativity is everyday we have the opportunity to not only create beauty in others by the way we speak to them, but we have the opportunity to create environments conducive to turning darkness to light, animosity to tenderness and kindness, hatred to love and sadness to joy!
So, CREATORS!!! Let’s CREATE!!! Let’s get our “creative” juices flowing and start creating beauty and life with OUR words AND actions! Wouldn’t it be great if we could look at OUR creations, and, like God, say, “It is very good!” (Genesis 1:31)

Acres of Diamonds
I heard Jentezen Franklin share a true story from the 1800s when diamonds were discovered all over Africa. An African farmer heard those tales about other farmers making millions by discovering diamonds. He was so excited that he sold his farm to go prospecting for diamonds himself. He spent the rest of his life wandering through Africa searching but not finding the diamonds that brought such high prices on the markets of the world. Finally, in total despondency and disappointment, he threw himself into a river and drowned.
Meanwhile, the man who bought his farm was crossing a small stream on the property, when suddenly there was a bright flash of blue and red light from the stream bottom. He bent down and picked up the good-sized stone. He brought it home and placed it on his fireplace mantel to admire it. Several weeks later, a visitor stopped by and saw the stone. He asked the farmer if he knew what he’d found, but the farmer simply thought it was a piece of crystal. The visitor told him he had found one of the largest diamonds ever discovered. The farmer told the man that his creek was full of such stones.
The first farmer sold his farm so that he might find a diamond mine. It turned out to be one of the most productive diamond mines on the entire African continent. He had owned acres of diamonds, but he sold them for practically nothing, in order to look for them elsewhere. The moral is clear: If the first farmer had only taken the time to study and prepare himself to learn what diamonds looked like in their rough state, and to thoroughly explore the property he had before looking elsewhere, all of his wildest dreams would have come true.
My eyes opened when I heard that story. At this very moment, we could be standing in the middle of our very own acres of diamonds in creative ideas, innovations -- the eye-openers to the treasures that might be inside us or around us.
Wherever you are or whatever you're doing right now -- in a world of worry, concern and anxiety -- just may be where the diamonds are. Yes, times have been tough and your hope seems to have vanished with the weight of your concerns that have become two-ton weights. I just don't believe we are in an isolated incident in the midst of this isolation we are living through. I believe God is up to something so grandiose and is on our side. It starts with HOPE. Our "hope" glasses will open our eyes to see the diamonds!
My husband's favorite motivational topic was hope. He would say: "Hope is the great expectation that something good is about to happen!" I'm so glad I caught hold of that hope. It has served me well. I know the alternative. When there is no hope -- life is over. That's why we hear about so many people who are living in depression, hopelessness and even taking their lives. "Hope deferred does make the heart sick." Proverbs 13:12. I cringe when I hear someone say "Don't get your hope up!" Why don't we get our hope up and believe that this day can be a day of ahas, wonders, miracles and surprises?
I'm telling you not hoping is not believing in our God with Whom all things are impossible “May God, the source of hope, fill you with joy and peace through your faith in Him. Then you will overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13) Whoohoo! Bring on that overflowing hope! Could you be sitting on a diamond mine? Could your mind be the diamond mine of innovation, creativity, ideas, and witty inventions? Let's get our HOPE up!

Technology ROCKS!!!
I get amused when I hear folks talking about the “good old days” when we could leave our doors unlocked, where the worst thing we did in schools was chew gum, where kids played outside using their imaginations, and gas was 23 cents a gallon (or less). But were the good old days -- really that good? Were the good old days that good when tornadoes came without warning because, without technology, no one could see them building ahead of time. And were the good old days that good when it took days to communicate with a loved one because the only communication was "snail mail". Now we can communicate instantaneously by social media and email. In the good old days we had to stop at a pay phone to make a call. We had to carry a camera for photos, and an extra “Palm Pilot” that carried our contacts in it. Now we have cell phones that do it all. I love this photo of “Before and After" photo.
My word for today is TECHNOLOGY: methods, systems, and devices which are the result of scientific knowledge being used for practical purposes.
Yesterday I posted that I had been on a retreat for the weekend. That meant being unplugged from technology. As most know, my personal mission since my husband graduated to heaven 7+ years ago, has been to provide a daily blog and Facebook post (without exception). I do my best to post before 6 am, with the only exceptions being when I’m out of the country or out of cell coverage. I didn’t like those “exceptions”, so I set out for a solution. That’s when I discovered Hootsuite, which is an app that gives me the ability to schedule my Facebook or any other social media platform to post at the specific time I need it to. Now, I use Hootsuite and for my blog, I simply schedule it in my Google App – blogger. So, when a friend, who knew I was on an "unplugged" retreat, asked on my FB post “How do you do this when I know you are on retreat?,” I explained Hootsuite to her. Just maybe you can use that app if the need arises, too!.
Sometimes it’s good to UNPLUG from technology so we can hear more clearly from God, to walk a short distance rather than taking the car, to climb stairs instead of taking the elevator or escalator. Sometimes it’s better to visit someone face-to-face, rather than texting or calling. It's a treat to recall good memories from the past, but being alive in this day and this time, in this generation.....is right when and where God planned for us to be. We are here on purpose and if we embrace the opportunities, the technologies, the possibilities and the experiences of these good new days, they will be the BEST DAYS of our lives.
Thanks be to God for TECHNOLOGY and those incredibly wise and gifted inventors and innovators who used their God-given minds to give us shortcuts and conveniences – especially when we need them the most. And, I'm grateful to get to connect with amazing people like you. Thanks, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford, Orville and Wilbur Wright, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and to all the other inventors and innovators that made life so much easier for us. Thanks, God, for being the unparalleled Creator of all of us -- Who can give us ideas, creativity and witty inventions on a daily basis. We just have to tap into His wisdom and creativity!
Jesus said “Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these...." John 14:12. Jesus took His message by donkey or by foot. Today, TECHNOLOGY has taken that same message around the world and the spread of Christianity is nothing short of supernatural. There are still huge segments of the world’s population that have never even heard the name of Jesus. May we pray continually for TECHNOLOGY and INNOVATION that will open doors for ALL to hear the GOOD NEWS so we can say, "Even so, Lord Jesus, COME!"

GOD WITH US.....All the Time
God is always with us and we often take it for granted. The Creator of you and me, and everything that was and is and is to come -- is with us. Have you had moments when you sensed Him so close? Maybe it was while you were praying or singing a song or holding a newborn baby or felt Him in a warm breeze?
Of course, there are those obvious times of sensing His presence when we have a healing take place after we were given a negative diagnosis, or our child was healed, a surprise financial windfall, or a new job that was better than we could have imagined. Then there are the unexpected blessings that we acknowledge God's hand in it, like a speech or work presentation that's unexpectedly well received, a new nutrition product that caused healing in our body, the "free" tire change, the unexpected check in the mail, the word from a friend that says "Your post today was exactly what I needed" or the book that your neighbor gave you that opened your mind to a new and better way of doing something. These are all personal stories where I knew it was God -- every time.
In all of those times, God is with us. In our Life Group, we've been talking a lot about "God in the ordinary, everyday occurrences of our lives". So much so, I encouraged the ladies to get journals to start writing down those things, those divine appointments and happenings that take place throughout the week. We talked about how God seems to be amping up His presence by all kinds of signs and wonders. It has been commonplace for us to talk about the God encounters we had during the week. Now, we're taking note of it in our journals. Doing that -- there's no way to take God for granted.
Yesterday, one of our gals sent this photo to me. It was the answer to what we've been sensing -- God being very present with us -- desiring to be real to us in our everyday facets of life. "Call to ME, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know!" Jeremiah 33:3.
Does that sound like someone who wants to withhold from His kids? NOT! It sounds like a Father who wants to give His kids those ideas, witty inventions, innovations, discernment, creativity, wisdom, knowledge and all kinds of exciting things that can rock our world. We call on Him (we acknowledge Him) and He WILL answer us AND show us GREAT and MIGHTY things we DID NOT KNOW. Just a little photo by a friend, awakened me to the possibilities that come from knowing GOD IS WITH US.
Oh, and how significant for me as I saw that grain of wheat in the photo. It was one of those "Donna, just call on Me" moments, after all that photo had my name in it -- Donna WHEAT Wuerch. When I CALL TO HIM, He calls out to me. He is WITH us and He is FOR us.

You Know You're Having a Great Day When....Joy Conquers Fear
Day 188 of Photo Inspirations -- You Know You're Having a Great Day When....Joy Conquers Fear
Yesterday, as planned since this time last year, I headed to the Tulsa Expo Center for "The Affair of the Heart" where there's over 450 artisans and craftsmen under one roof. I love attending this annual event because I get to take in the incredible talents of those exhibiting their wares: gorgeous handcrafted jewelry, wood crafts, paintings, yard sculptures, clothing, quilts, handbags, furniture, gourmet foods and more. I'm amazed at the creativity of those artists. (They must be just like the FATHER -- creative!)
Walking through the exhibits, I saw a long line at KVOO 98.5 Country Radio's booth. I guess country music qualifies for "creative". They were giving the chance to spin the wheel for a prize -- guess the number the wheel will stop on and you win a prize of your choice. There wasn't a cruise or diamond ring in the prizes, but the thought of being a winner, enticed me to play. I said, "4".....and what-do-you-know, it landed on "4". "Ladies & Gentlemen, we have a winner!" This book, "Chicken Soup for the Soul -- Find Your Inner Strength" was my prize choice. I'm with Sunny Leigh, the Radio Host/DJ in this photo. Thanking them for the win, I thought to myself, "You know you're having a great day, when you pick a number and it's the winner!" LOL!
I came home and opened the book and found it is made up of stories of those who turned pain to purpose. It fell open to this chapter "Joy Conquers Fear". This short chapter was by Kim Seeley -- a Mom whose daughter was tragically killed at age 19 in an automobile accident. She felt grief She felt guilt that she had not kept her daughter safe, and fear -- the fear that just expects something else tragic to happen in her life. But soon, she thought "What type of memorial to her would it be for me, her mother, to carry this shroud of grief and pain around for the rest of my life? Her memory would be better served by my seeking joy and happiness than by wrapping myself in a cocoon of fear and anger." And next, the words of this chapter that I loved the most....that speaks to me, and hopefully to those of you who are still living in the past and are still shrouded with grief over a loved one's passing or another disappointment. I knew why I was a winner today.....it came packaged in these words:
"So, today I choose joy. I seek beauty in nature. A beautiful sunset brings a sense of peace. The changing colors of the autumn leaves are a source of wonder. The ocean waves and their ebbs and flow connect me to the rhythms of the Maker Himself. I have joined the choir again, something I had given up for many years. I find joy in the smiles and laughter that my little grandson brings to my world. I will not allow the fear I once had to control me. I am embracing joy. There will be moments that hit me out of the blue, a stray song or random picture that will bring me to my knees in tears. But I will rise. And I will allow joy into my heart and and into my life, for JOY CONQUERS FEAR."
And Kim's words are my words, too. I will ALWAYS choose JOY when faced with the options. Psalm 28:7 “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart LEAPS with JOY, and with my song I praise Him.”

No Prayer is too Small for our Lord to Handle
Prayer has unbelievable benefits to us, even when we're just praying about a lost set of car keys or finding our cell phone. Praying for the little things, as well as the big things, helps us to acknowledge our dependence on God. When we become so self-sufficient that we don't leave room for God's ideas, creativity, and resources, then we're deliberately unplugging from our greatest source of supply. It's like unplugging a lamp from its electrical supply. No electricity -- no light! And when we choose to plug into God’s unlimited power, an abundance of God's grace, wisdom and understanding comes flowing to us.
When we choose to seek God’s provision for something seems as insignificant as a parking place or just-the-right wording of a letter, or the most effective words to give in a speech, or what clothes to wear to the office, we’re acknowledging that we want and need God’s direction in every aspect of our day. We’re inviting Him to be the end-authority of every last detail of our life. And that kind of praying gives us hundreds of opportunities, everyday, for sweet communion with God.
Three days in a row, this scripture bears repeating, Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
