Day 22 of Photo Inspirations.
Today is the funeral of Andrae Crouch. It will be streamed live on BET.
This photo is of a treasured music/song book we have, loaded with songs written by Andrae -- one of our all-time favorite composers and artists, our mentor, friend, 7-time grammy award winner, and beloved music genius. In secular music, he was known for his collaborative work with Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Quincy Jones as well as conducting choirs that sang on the Michael Jackson hit "Man in the Mirror". Andrae was a breath of fresh air when his talent incorporated contemporary secular music styles into the gospel music he grew up with. His efforts in this area were what helped in paving the way for early American contemporary Christian music during the 1960s and 1970 (our music ministry era). His original music arrangements were heard in the films The Color Purple and Disney's The Lion King, as well as the NBC television series "Amen".
And, though I won't be in Los Angeles today to celebrate his life, I am reminiscing and celebrating the memories and the impact he had in our lives.Andrae inspired my husband and I and our Master's Four Quartette for years, His songs were our songs. His songs fueled the flames of our burning desire to spread God's love and word as musicians. His songs stirred our hearts like none other.
When I received word about his passing, my mind raced back to our favorites -- "My Tribute -- To God Be the Glory", "It Won't Be Long", "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power", and, in fact, many of his songs were so impactful that they became hymns -- "Soon and Very Soon" was one of them. but my all-time favorite was one that carried us through many tests and trials and challenges......"Through It All". On more than one occasion, we found new hope and faith for our own faith journey. In his honor and in my own opportunity to embrace the memories and encourage you today, I share this beautiful song and Andrae's beautiful testimony with you here. Thanks for the memories, Andrae! RIP!

I've had many tears and sorrows,
I've had questions for tomorrow,
There's been times I didn't know right from wrong.
But in every situation,
God gave me blessed consulation,
that my trials come to only make me strong.
Chorus
Through it all, through it all,
I've learned to trust in Jesus,
I've learned to trust in God.
Through it all, through it all,
I've learned to depend upon His Word.
Verse 2
I've been to lots of places,
I've seen a lot of faces,
There's been times I felt so all alone.
But in my lonely hours,
yes, those precious lonely hours,
Jesus lets me know that I was His own
Verse 3
I thank God for the mountains,
and I thank Him for the valleys,
I thank Him for the storms He brought me through.
For if I'd never had a problem,
I wouldn't know God could solve them,
I'd never know what faith in God could do

If He Cares for the Sparrows, How Much More Does He Care for Us?
Day 21 of Photo Inspirations.
My sweet Alexia, and her passion for animals (big and small) just keeps being more and more evident. She found this little bird all alone and it appeared to be wounded. She picked him up and tenderly held him. She brought him to me to see her newfound friend. She saw his leg was twisted underneath him and when she straightened it out, his family showed up and he was able to fly away to meet up with them. All he needed was someone to help him out of his tangled mess.
I think about us, or those in our lives, who are tangled all up in circumstances and situations that have left them paralyzed -- unable to move forward -- unable to progress -- unable to be free, and I think about how we could help that one -- like Alexia did -- to lend them a hand or give them a word of encouragement or to pray with them or to put an arm around them. If God cares so much about the birds of the air (or, in the case of this little bird), that He would bring a little girl to his aid, how much more does He care about you and me? And, how much more does He ask that we be His hands and heart extended to those around us to give them the help, hope, and support they need to get out of their tangled mess?
What if we could be the answer to someone's prayer today? What if that "someone" was our assignment from God? If it's to be for those around us.....it could be up to you and me, to be the difference maker in their lives.

Date Nut Loaf -- What Are Your Constants?
Day 20 -- Photo Inspiration: Mom's (aka Granny) Date Nut Loaf.
I stopped in to see Mom (my Mother-in-Law) yesterday. She had just finished pouring her famous Date Nut Loaf batter into the pan and the tin can. Yes, tin cans make for the perfect individual size loaf pan. And, for ease of removal of the "cooked" loaf -- she always lines her pans with wax paper. (Tips of the day for you!)
Mom's always been known for her baking -- best pie crusts ever (apple pie is her specialty), best chocolate cake ever, best kuchen (German cake -- Mom is German), best chocolate chip cookies, matrimonial cake, shortbread cookies, and, of course, the best Date Nut Loaf EVER. Here's the thing about yesterday's baking.....it was, typically, done before Christmas, but this year....it's happening the middle of January -- perhaps, her NEW normal.
She's 92 and her new "normal" is very different than years past. This is a lady that has been the epitome of the energizer bunny. Now, she walks slower, doesn't stand for long periods of time, On cold days, she stays in because the cold causes her knees to hurt too much. She doesn't cook much anymore. She doesn't entertain much anymore. She asked me to bring her mail in for her today. She told me the slight incline on her sidewalk is too much for her now. She doesn't walk outside too much at all anymore. She doesn't go shopping anymore.
But here are her constants -- her weekly hair appointments, her great granddaughter visiting her every Monday, sleeping well at night, her daily devotions, her prayer time, her attendance at church and giving to her church Those are her priorities and those are her constants. I know it's hard for us to relate to her because our lives are so busy and full -- but one day.....we'll be there, and we'll understand how important "constants" are. As I continue to mature....I'm appreciating each of these seasons that we come to in our lives and I pray that my constants will include those that are so important to her.
And I think, she would be most pleased with me if I GAVE you her best EVER Date Nut Loaf Recipe -- direct from our family's recipe book. BTW -- the recipe says run (rum) or orange juice. Mom always used orange juice -- never rum -- she was a straight-laced pastor's wife for over 50 years, and she toed the line in more ways than one!

God's Wrecking Crew
Day 19 -- Photo Inspiration -- "We could wreck the world -- Jesus saves"
As we were driving down a Texas highway, my granddaughter and I saw this truck with this message on it. Of course it was a seize-the-moment -- "photo inspiration"! Lexi took the photo for me!
I'll admit -- I was puzzled about that branding. After some online research, I found that Billy L Nabors Demolition has over 50 years experience in commercial and residential demolition, wrecking and dismantling -- and is the Dallas area's leading demolition expert. I found this article from "Dallas Magazine":
"God's Wrecking Crew" "Some people wear their feelings on their sleeves. Billy Nabors wears his on 15 trucks, each emblazoned with an unforgettable slogan: "We could wreck the world -- Jesus saves." Nabors is really in the business of eyesore removal. He knows his slogan helps people remember him. "It’s an eye-catcher," Nabors says. "It’s not everybody who’s got one of these." The slogans also serve as reminders to Nabors’ drivers, who don"t need a 1-800 number to help them drive friendly. "There’s no place to hide in one of those." Nabors says "I’ve got a 30-foot billboard on every one of them." "Ain’t many people advertise for the Lord." Nabors says. "Most people advertise for the devil."
You sure can't knock success -- Billy found a niche market.....getting folks looking his way if they need demolition and looking his way to point them to Jesus. I'd say Billy found a winning combination "We could wreck the world -- Jesus saves."
What does OUR branding say about us? Is our branding, and the way we live, good advertising for God, too? Does it cause others to do research to find out what we're all about? Just maybe.....they'll buy our products....and even be drawn to the LIGHT because of what they find out!

Clean House and Clean Heart
Day 18 of Photo Inspirations -- This is my squeaky clean house! I'm pretty good at keeping a clean and tidy home, but I'm still grateful that once a month I have a sweet gal that comes and gives my home a thorough cleaning -- top to bottom --- blinds, baseboards, windows -- you know the things we typically avoid until we HAVE to get it done. It was especially wonderful to have her here -- the day after I took down all my Christmas decorations! Whew -- over a month of dust underneath all of it -- shedding of garland everywhere, etc.
As meticulous as my cleaning lady is, however, when she's gone....I'll usually find a little area she missed -- maybe a a few dustballs she overlooked -- no big deal, but it represents something that keeps my home from being squeaky clean.
The scripture "Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me", comes to mind, especially when I realize there are some less than squeaky clean areas in my heart that need a "house-cleaning". Maybe it's the difficult people that I'd prefer to avoid or the ones who have the incessantly determined barking dog next door, or the grumpy and cranky ones. Those folks represent the little "dust balls" in my heart and I realized this morning -- it's time to sweep clean those areas of my heart.
Sweeping clean means to center on Jesus' example. He certainly dealt with many difficult people during His time here on earth. His attitude about them was expressed best in His Sermon on the Mount. He was quite specific: "I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you” (Luke 6:27-31).
That kind of love is much more than heart "cleaning". It's heart transformation, because my present attitude toward the hard-to-love people around me is keeping me from being the LIGHT to my world. I realize that it's not a monthly cleaning that my heart needs, it's a minute-by-minute with the One who is consistently kind even to the ungrateful. When we bring His EXPERT Cleaning Services into our hearts -- we'll start to take on His character and we'll love the way He loves and our hearts will become SQUEAKY CLEAN!

Birds of a Feather Flock Together -- Teamwork Leads to Victory
Day 17 of Photo Inspirations -- Birds of a Feather Flock Together!
This is the pond behind my house -- part of which is frozen -- the other part is being enjoyed by this bonded flock of Canadian geese. Quite amusing to see them diving their heads under the water for a breakfast fish treat and flapping their wings. They're quite stately and beautiful to look at......but, oh me, in our neighborhood, they are not a welcomed sight. They have no respect for our yards, sidewalks and streets -- leaving their geese poo everywhere -- so much so, if you're not watching, you'll step right into it.
I understand there sure are a lot of them everywhere — in parks, on golf courses, maybe even YOUR backyard, too. Nevertheless, we still enjoy the sight of geese overhead, signaling the coming or going of our coldest months. .
I didn't post this today to discuss how to eliminate the geese problems, but I am posting to look at lessons we could learn from the geese, and apply to our own lives and teams. In the sky, geese are an impressive visual of coordination and communication.
Lesson #1 -- Cooperation -- As geese flap their wings, they create an uplift for the bird following. By flying in a V formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if any bird were to fly alone. Flying together creates an uplift, a surge that carries the whole farther than its individual parts could go by themselves. Comparing them to a group or team cooperating, it can achieve great things. We are truly a flock. We might not be the lead goose, but each of us has a role, even if it seems minimal. The team's forward movement, its success, is dependent on the efforts of us all. I saw this so clearly in our team events last weekend.
Lesson #2 -- Unity -- Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to fly alone, and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front. Going it alone - being independent of the flock - leads to falling behind. What happens when a goose falls out of formation and cannot or will not reform? If the flock can fly 71% farther as a group, then the lone goose is left behind. Anyone who has played team sports knows that each player must subordinate his desires to those of the team. His goal may be to have the highest scoring average, but that may not help the team to win the championship.
Lesson #3 -- Leadership -- When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into formation and another goose flies at the point position. True leadership is reproducing himself so that others can bear the load and even be able to assume responsibilities if the leader is absent for a period of time. Others get to step up and show their leadership abilities.
Lesson #4 -- Encouragement -- The geese in formation honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed. To be the lead bird, is to be a target, and that can be stressful and wearying. The leader doesn't always know what is going on among the team, how the members feel, or what questions or misconceptions they may have. Too many times all the leader hears is the grumbling of the vocal few. Through our kind words of encouragement, we can give strength to those up ahead of us. A sincere thank you or supportive gesture, will make it all worthwhile.
Sometimes, being a team member, means we are watching from the bench. We still participate, however, by giving encouragement, by rooting for our teammates who are on the field. I love Seattle Seahawks "twelfth man". I sincerely believe it's one of the reasons they are such a winning team. The fans are the "twelfth man" and they cheer from the sidelines, wear their team colors, put flags on their cars and in their yards (in my son's family's case) and they are "all in" supporters.
Lesson #5 When a goose gets sick or is shot down, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it is able to fly again or dies. They then launch out on their own, with another formation or catch up with the flock. These are just other ways of saying we must help each other -- especially those who have dropped out of formation. We should never abandon a sick or wounded team member. As long as there is hope, we should be there to help.
Imagine if our "family" team, "business" team, "sports" team or any other team behaved like a flock of geese, flying in perfect formation, cooperating as a team, unified behind the leadership, constantly encouraging those around us, and helping our team members in faith and support. We'd reach our flock's destination in complete victory.
Now, please excuse me -- as I shoo away this "team" of geese in my backyard. Time for them to find another place of victory!!!

Helping Hands -- Teamwork
Day 16 of my daily photo inspirations -- this one came today from a sweet friend and great photographer, Angelina Hope, who captured this photo. She called it "Helping Hands". I love it! When I first saw this photo, I just saw ME, then Angel pointed out the "Helping hands" -- that helped me cross over to the other side!
TEAM -- Together Everyone Accomplishes More. This photo was taken at Allaso Ranch campgrounds last weekend. We were divided into teams of about 8-10 members each, and this challenge was crossing from one of three platforms until all members were across, with only two planks. But the platforms were further apart than the longest plank we were given. First we had to determine how to accomplish such a task. Brainstorming was key. One of the bright players gave his concept and sure enough it was the right plan, however, it was easier said than done. Our team was made up of small, medium and robust members, and it there always had to be two players on the middle platform to hold the plank with his/her feet. You couldn't jump to the platform and you couldn't let the planks touch the ground. And every player had to get across successfully. And successful, we were -- because of teamwork and HELPING HANDS.
Whether it's at a camp utilizing the strength of a team, or teamwork at home or teamwork at work or play.....being a part of a team that collaborates and helps each other to get the tasks and jobs done....is where success begins and ends. I love Phil Jackson's (NBA's New York Knicks President) quote about teamwork: “Good teams become great ones when the members trust each other enough to surrender the Me for We”. Teamwork.....makes the DREAM WORK!

I Can Do This --- Meet You At The Top
Day 15 of Photo Inspirations:
What could be more exhilarating than being pulled up over 75 feet in the air with just a cord holding you up, and then DROPPED? Answer: Being pulled up over 75 feet in the air and dropped with your granddaughter by your side.
Okay, I was the most mature one to tackle the high ropes courses, the tandem zipline, and the low ropes courses, and my granddaugther, Alexia, was the youngest. We were quite the pair! But we didn't hesitate to take our turn. It's all about the adrenaline rush, the I-CAN-DO-THIS attitude, no-fear-allowed attitude, and living-out-loud attitude. Sure, there could be reasons to step back and let all the kids go first, or go not-at-all. After all, I'm in the "Senior -- above 60 category". Don't want to take a chance with a little old lady. After all, I shouldn't take risks with my body or health. After all, it requires stepping out of my comfort zone. After all, someone my age should be just watching the fun. NOT!!!!
I'm here to tell you -- you are talking about the wrong Mama if you're thinking any of that. I am a faith-filled, big thinking, bet-the-farm risk taker, and I will not give up until I'm taken up. Expect to see me running with the wind. I guess you can tell I’m a little on a rampage about growing older and what that means. I’m not dead so I’m not done.
Here's the big deal -- the enemy makes us think we’re obsolete when we get to a certain age. We don’t age out. We are just on our way home. Purpose keeps us young. And my purpose is to be an example of faith, joy, hope and great expectation. Most of all I want to figure out how to help more people! I will not be getting into a rocking chair anytime soon. How about you? If you're still here -- whether your 20 or 90 -- you're not done. We're still young.....and we can do anything we set our mind and heart to do -- to the best of our ability!
I'll meet you at the top of the tower -- let's let it roll together!

Take the Leap of Faith
Day 14 of Photo Inspirations.
Today I went to see my little 18-month old great neice who is a "regular" at my mother-in-law's every Monday. I took this photo of her and her Gamma, my sister-in-law. This little angel girl loves climbing and using her hands and body to learn all about this world around her. She is completely unburdened by responsibilities, time and where to get her next meal. She lives in a world of wonder, awe and joy. Okay -- so I'm a little biased, but I think this little angel girl is amazing and is super fearless. You can tell in these photos that she is so secure in knowing that her Gamma will catch her.
She was performing for me today -- yes, she is also quite the entertainer. When I saw how absolutely confident she was in climbing the stool (apparatus -- LOL) and jumping into her Gamma's arms, I thought about that total confidence she had in the one who loves her so much.
Along the way, it is just expected that she will lose that sense of security and confidence. But, she doesn't have to -- and neither do our children. It's up to you and me to be truly fearless leaders, because we have total confidence in the ONE Who is always there to lead, guide and protect us. And, one of the most effective ways of teaching our kids is to lead by example. Our children look up to us and mimic the behaviors they see in us -- their parents and grandparents. If they see us happy, comfortable and at peace, they will have a sense of security, confidence and peace.
If we live our lives fearless, our kids will see that and it will serve as a powerful lesson for the people they will become. It's up to us to be sure we live it wherever we go -- at work, at home, at their school -- and when they see the confidence we exude, they'll follow our lead.
And, by the way, in case you, yourself, aren't that fearless leader today, at least strive to raise fearless kids, because in the process, you will perfect and refine your own journey toward fearlessness. This job of parenting is as much about our growth as much as it is for our children. As we teach, we learn. And there's no richer or rewarding path than to be fearless ourselves. So, let's go ahead and mount that apparatus or circumstance or situation.....and TAKE A LEAP of faith.

Respectaholics Anonymous -- Teamwork Made the Dream Work
Day 13 of 365 Days of Photo Inspirations
It started with the call from our leader, Staci, "As 3 to 6 year alumni of the Unstoppable Leadership Summits, you will be the Coaches of the teams, and those who have attended for 2 years, will be the Captains."
It started with the call from our leader, Staci, "As 3 to 6 year alumni of the Unstoppable Leadership Summits, you will be the Coaches of the teams, and those who have attended for 2 years, will be the Captains."
And these were her instructions to us -- "You and your teams will choose a:
1) Team Name and Chant/Cheer. 2) Team Branding (Colors, shirts/costumes, etc.); 3) Team Leadership Skit based on a "law" from John Maxwell's book: "21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership".
1) Team Name and Chant/Cheer. 2) Team Branding (Colors, shirts/costumes, etc.); 3) Team Leadership Skit based on a "law" from John Maxwell's book: "21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership".
NO BIG DEAL. Right? Wrong!!! It was a huge deal to each coach and captain and their team -- we're all about being "in it -- to win it"....and each team produced over-the-top table decorations and awesome chants that spoke to what it takes to be an effective leader worth following. Every team gave it their absolute best, but I'll admit, I'm particularly partial to my team, Team Respectable Me! We spent weeks brainstorming, letting our imaginations and creativity come to life, and getting full costumes together. Sincerely, T-E-A-M -- together everyone accomplishes more.
We chose the Law of Respect. You know the little minions in Despicable Me? We used them as our model, except turned them into Respectable Me Minions. Our chant? (After the minion "Banana Song" -- Ba ba ba ba ba ba de -- I respect you and you respect me.
We gotta treat each other RESPECTFULLY. We are Team Respectable Me!
We gotta treat each other RESPECTFULLY. We are Team Respectable Me!
Our costumes? We each had on our minion overalls, shirts, hats, gloves and goggles.
Our GIVE? The most amazing minion cookies made by our captains, Miguel Cervantes and Zoila Cervantes, who have a bakery in Kansas City -- a treat given out to all of the attendees.
Our skit? Respectaholics Anonymous -- we were recovering Disrespectful Minions who had become Respectable Minions. We each spoke to the kind of leader we once were, but now, we were respectable. Staci was our "guest minion" and was, of course, the rogue minion who demanded respect by singing Aretha's "R-E-S-P-E-C-T"! It was our job to tell her our "despicable disrespectable" transformation to our NEW and IMPROVED Respectable Me stories to help her become respectable, too! Absolutely so hilarious -- we could hardly keep from laughing our sides out.

This day 11 of my 365 days of photo inspirations shows our team in all our glory -- but the glory isn't in all the hard work, the determination, the effort or THE GLORY! It's about a "cause" -- a "commitment" -- a " MOMENT" to give it our all -- the best way we could. I give our TEAM a standing ovation, high five's, big pats on the back and request for a big ENCORE in our everyday commitment to do our best in any situation and circumstance we encounter. To Team Respectable Me -- I say, "WELL DONE, you good and faithful Respectable MINIONS!"

God FIRST
Day 12 of Photo Inspirations -- God FIRST
After 23 days of Christmas, New Year's and 2015 Unstoppable Summit celebrations, inspirations and packed-full-of-joy-and-excitement, I'm at last home-sweet-home in Tulsa. It's always great to go.....and then be back home again.
After 23 days of Christmas, New Year's and 2015 Unstoppable Summit celebrations, inspirations and packed-full-of-joy-and-excitement, I'm at last home-sweet-home in Tulsa. It's always great to go.....and then be back home again.
I must say that I've had the time of my life with my family -- lots of "kid" fun with ALL of my six grandchildren, and the big finale of this weekend's leadership summit has definitely kicked me in gear for, what I believe will be, one of the best, most blessed years of my life.
Why not believe that way? That's what God wants us to do. When we give Him FIRST PLACE above all and everything else, He promises to give us the desires of our hearts. That's my resolution for this year. Give Him the FIRST of my day in time with Him in quiet moments of just Him and me; give Him the FIRST of my week as I attend church with others to give Him worship and praise; give Him the FIRST of my month as I give Him my tithes and offerings, and give Him the FIRST of my year as I seek Him for His plans and purposes for my life. "But seek FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Matthew 6:33
When we put God FIRST -- everything else will fall into its proper place.

Seize the Moment
Day 11 of 365 photo inspirations
What a privilege it is to be at the 2015 #Unstoppable Leadership Summit this weekend. Awesome, inspiring, life changing and lots of moments that we're seizing. That was the subject I was privileged to speak about today. Staci was introducing me in this photo.
What a privilege it is to be at the 2015 #Unstoppable Leadership Summit this weekend. Awesome, inspiring, life changing and lots of moments that we're seizing. That was the subject I was privileged to speak about today. Staci was introducing me in this photo.
Why the subject of "Seizing the Moment"? Because that's a subject I am familiar with. That's how I live on a daily basis. That's what I do to live with all-out passion, determination and relentless attitude to make the most of each and every day -- not just existing, but to be PRESENT in the moments to know exactly those times when I know that I know "heaven touched earth" at THAT precise moment.
Distractions will keep us from knowing when we're in one of THOSE moments. Regret will keep us from being present for one of THOSE moments. Opposition and discomfort will keep us from being present from one of THOSE moments. But when we realize that those "heaven touches earth" moments can take place at any given time and place, we will keep ourselves -- our eyes, ears and heart keenly "tuned in" whenever and wherever we are. We just never know when it's a moment that alters our course and we step into our destiny!
Drink This Water and You'll Never Thirst Again
Day 10 of 365 days of photo inspirations:
IT'S FREEZING in Texas -- and as Alexia and I made our way home from the store, our attention was drawn to the freezing water surrounding this beautiful waterfall in her neighborhood -- not a usual sight for Texas, which we associate with warmth -- not frigid cold. But, nevertheless, as cold as it is outside, we need water on the inside.
Water is our body's principal chemical component and makes up about 60 percent of our body weight. Every system in our body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to our cells, and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.
Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when we don't have enough water in our body to carry out normal functions. Even mild dehydration can drain our energy and make us tired.
Every day we lose water through our breath, perspiration, and other body functions. For our body to function properly, we must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water. Medical reports state that we need at least 2 liters of water a day.
There are so many scriptures in the Bible about living water, flowing water, and my inspiration today was about the water that is thirst quenching.
John 4:14 "But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him, will never be thirsty again." and Isaiah 58:11 "And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail."
Throughout history there have always been those who looked for the easy way to find the "fountain of youth" or a miracle water that would provide success, fulfillment, and happiness. But most of this searching is in vain. … it is only this ‘living water,’ that water that never runs dry when we allow Him to quench our thirst. People really do have a great spiritual thirst. They crave a cool, satisfying drink of insight and knowledge that will soothe their parched souls. Their spirits cry out for life-sustaining experiences of peace and calm to nourish and enliven their withering hearts.
I invite you, today, to meet the GIVER of that living water. The woman at the well was looking for water that couldn't satisfy her soul. That H20 only provided temporary satisfaction. But I love the outcome of that story because she met up with the TRUTH in human flesh Who revolutioned her life: He said, "Everyone who drinks this water (H20) will be thirsty again" but "Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst" (John 4:14). In accepting that TRUTH, she shifted from everyday life to everlasting life. Excuse me....must be about my day, but I'm thirsty, so I'm taking a drink of that living water!

If These Become Silent, the Stones Will Cry Out
Day 9 of 365 days of Photo Inspirations
My grandson showed me his cell phone wallpaper. This is the photo he used. He asked me, "You know where this was taken?" I had no idea. He said, "Those are rocks in your backyard." Quite beautiful in color and tones -- but, actually, those rocks are just the red clay rocks of Oklahoma and they actually lack the color seen in the photo. Payton had enhanced the photo with the color palette on his phone. Gotta' love what we can do with technology today.
I looked at this photo a little closer and Luke 19:38-40, came to mind...."The whole crowd was shouting (as Jesus came into town on the back of a donkey), “BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” But Jesus answered, “I tell you, IF THESE BECOME SILENT, THE STONES WILL CRY OUT!"
WOW -- now that's pretty radical, but when God warns, He has a reason. Quite frankly, I don't want to be around to witness that production of rocks and stones crying out in praise.... because we were silent. We can do all the color enhancing and photoshop those rocks all we want, but only God can make them speak. I'm all for special effects, but most importantly is THE EFFECT God has on my life -- giving me above and beyond blessings that continue to inspire me to sing out, shout out, praise out, and worship the CREATOR of the rocks AND ME!

We Walk by Faith, Not by Sight
Day 8 of 365 Photo Inspirations:
I have the joy of still being at my daughter's home in Texas for a few more days. until after our Leadership Summit in East Texas this weekend. What a priviIege it is to stay in their beautiful Guest Room. The first time I visited them here, Staci asked me to let her know if there was anything that was missing for a guest to have everything they need for a restful and peaceful experience. The only thing missing was a hair dryer. This time, it's there, as well as this stencil drawing just above the closet door, and directly across from the comfy and cozy bed. When I wake up, there it is....."We walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7.

What perfect words to see, meditate on, and embrace throughout my day -- especially knowing, that "walking by faith" is a journey of tremendous blessing and reward. It is a journey that is exciting, often, life-altering, and mind-boggling.
Walking by faith and not by sight requires us to go to a place we don't know, but one that God will reveal as we walk in obedience to Him.
Walking by faith means that we continue to cling to the dreams God has planted in our heart, even though it seems those dreams are risky and it's taking a long time for them to come true.
Walking by faith requires a strong determination to follow God’s plan regardless what life throws our way.
Walking by faith means we may have to do some pretty crazy things. Think about Noah building an ark for a flood when it had never even rained on earth. Think about Abraham clinging to the promise that he would be the father of many nations even though he was childless at the age of 100.
Choosing the "walking by faith" life, means we get out of our comfort zone, willing to let God take our world and turn it upside down, shake it up, and start all over again. And, in doing so, we let God out of the neat little box that we have put Him in, and let Him show up when He's good and ready -- with his PERFECT timing.
I don’t know where you are on this journey of walking by faith, but I encourage you to take the first step of the walk. That first step is the first step to success. It's a decision we'll never regret!

He Blesses the Work of Our Hands
Day 7 of 365 Photo Inspirations.
It's quite effortless to be inspired in my children's homes -- where there are grandchildren filled with life, wonder and excitement. In addition to those little live-wires, the precious symbols, photos and memorabilia all over their homes gives me many opportunities to capture and seize precious moments, and even remember special times from the past.
This beautiful shadowbox display has a prominent place in my daughter's home. It represents two of the most precious memories that we have -- the Christening outfit worn by my grandson, Payton, and 2-1/2 years later, the Christening dress and jacket worn by my granddaughter, Alexia. I made the dress and jacket. I had such joy in selecting the pattern, the fabric, and sewing each stitch, weaving in the ribbon and sewing on the lace.
I have such a sweet remembrance of this time -- of course the incredible significance of dedicating those babies to God, but especially the pride and joy I had in seeing precious little Alexia in that dress I made with such tender loving care. It was tedious work, but only because I wanted it to be perfect for my new little granddaughter. I haven't sewn much since that little dress -- other than the occasional repair of a seam or letting out or taking in a clothing item.
Sewing was a big deal back in "my day". I took home economics in school and learning to sew was a vital part of that class. I'm still grateful for what I learned during those days. It has served me well.
Today, with stores full of clothing so readily available to us as well as so reasonably priced, it takes someone who really loves her sewing craft to take the time and effort to make a dress or outfit. But loving her craft provides so many rewards -- like the reward I had today in the sweet memories.
As I gazed at this work of art in the shadowbox, I realized that "the work of our hands" can be a ministry -- as we sew or craft something for someone, prepare a meal for someone that may be homebound, repair or remodel areas in a home, wash dishes, paint, caress a child, and reach out to touch someone with love. God has given each of us unique gifts for ministry. What has the fruit of YOUR hands done for others? Take it from me -- the rewards of allowing God to use our hands in ministry and service to others is beyond blessing. "The LORD will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands....." Deuteronomy 28:12

Celebrating the Cycle of Life
Day 6 of 365 Photo -- Celebrating the Cycle of Life -- Meet Emma, who I'm holding, and her friend, Max, who Lexi is holding.
Events in the last couple of days were planned by my granddaughter, Lexi, whose goal is to attend her Dad's alma mater, Texas A&M, one day. And, she plans to study and graduate as a veterinarian. I remember as just a baby how much she loved animals and had no fear around them. She's been an equestrian horse rider and she LOVES her little 6 pound Yorkie, Emma. Two days ago we went to the Vet to get Emma checked out to be sure she would be okay to have another litter of puppies, and, indeed, she got a clean bill of health. So yesterday, I had the joy of being with Lexi and Denise Gerrich to take Emma to be with her mate, "Max".
Max is a 4 pound darling Yorkie. It was love at first sight, and the rest I'll leave to the imagination. But I watched my granddaughter, who is quite typically a laugh-a-minute comedian, be poised, supportive, involved, and listened to Max's very knowledgeable owner explain, in detail, the process of breeding. She has been breeding Yorkies for many years.
I'm so thrilled I "seized the moment" for this beautiful experience. I was amazed as I saw my granddaughter go from her usual quirky and hilarious self, to a very mature, logical and tender pet owner (responsible and caring). I was witnessing, first hand, the cycle of life -- in my granddaughter and her little Yorkie: birth, growth, maturity. I saw God's cycle of life for creatures and us -- in such a profound way. It made me think once again about the magnitude of His genius. He created fish, reptiles and birds to be born alive or hatched from eggs. And I thought about the WOW animals (like a butterly) that they go to bed looking one way and wake up a different creature. And I thought about animals....and US.
God is such an AWESOME God, and the more I get to know about Him, the more He astounds me. The more I study His ways, absorb His presence into my very being.....He shows up in my world and keeps giving me "AHA" moments like I had yesterday. I urge you to go to that place as often as you can -- you don't need headphones, a trip to some exclusive paradise location, a yoga experience, a church or synogogue to find Him. You'll find Him, like I do, in MOMENTS -- those moments when we open our eyes and heart to His wonders all around us. #SeizeTheMoment #AwesomeGod
Royalty Begets Royalty
Day 5 of 365, and my grandson and granddaughter were my inspiration today.
As any typical morning with two very strong willed siblings, this morning was one where it took tremendous letting go of Payton's own desires for his sister's. First, he gave her the middle cinnamon roll of the pan -- the one that has the softer edges. His words: "Let the queen have her way."
Subsequently, we left for church and Lexi wanted the end of the aisle seat. Payton wanted that seat. But he, once again, gave way to his sister. He said, "Once again, let the queen have her way." I commented, "Payton, one of these days, God will bless you with a queen as your wife. Just look how He is preparing you for the future." I loved his sweet spirit so much. He wrote on my arm (with a pen), "I love you." I just thought how precious to raise our children in the way they should go. I know Payton is going to be that kind of husband someday. He'll treat his wife like a queen.
For those of you who are blessed with a beautiful marriage, I know it's because the woman is treating her husband like a king, and he is treating his wife as a queen. I speak with the voice of experience. I was married to a king, who treated me like a queen.
After church, we went out to lunch. I loved it when I saw the two of them sitting at the fireplace in the restaurant, hugging each other. Yes, this was a day of royal treatment -- royalty begets royalty.

And the LIGHT Keeps Shining Brightly
Day 4 of 365 days of my photo inspirations for 2015:
Tonight I was taken with the lights on many homes that are still brightly lit and shining in my children's Texas neighborhood. While many Christmas lights have been put away for another year, I, and many others will conclude our Christmas season on January 6th, after the 12 days of Christmas, and at the celebration of Epiphany (the manifestation of the Lord) and the day commemorated when the Wise Men brought their gifts to the Christ Child.
As I saw those homes tonight, I was touched by our desire to hold onto the lights a little longer -- it makes for such a tender and welcoming invitation to those homes. But, most of all, those lights continue to remind us of THE LIGHT that shines ever brightly in our hearts.
We will take down the lights from our homes, but it's up to us to represent and be THE LIGHT to our family, our neighbors and our world. We are "the chosen ones" to be the peacemakers, servants, joy and hope bearers to this world that needs that LIGHT so much.
Though Jesus is the ultimate, ever-ready, radiant, source of LIGHT that dispels darkness.....He told us in Matthew 5:14-16 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shines to all that are in the house. Even so let YOUR light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."
What if OUR LIGHTS were shining so brightly that when people pass our way, they draw toward THE LIGHT and their world of darkness is dispeled? Let's BE the Light that keeps on shining -- all year long!

Babe Magnet Captures This Babe
Day 3 of 365 days of "Seizing the Moments" in photos this year.
What could be closer to our Heavenly Father than the purity and preciousness of a baby? This little angel was across the aisle from me on my flight from Seattle to Dallas today. His shirt said "Babe Magnet" on it. He was. He captured my heart and drew me to him the entire trip. I haven't had a guy flirt with me like that in a very long time. LOL. He was a happy and peaceful baby all the way which made everyone around him fall in love with him, too.
As I watched the pride and joy that his daddy had in Him, I thought about the pride and joy we must bring to our Heavenly Father. This little charmer on the plane today was so loved by his daddy and that love was in no way performance-based. That little guy couldn't do anything on his own, to merit any more love than he already had from his daddy.
Did you know the love our Father has for us isn't performance-based either? We can't do enough to settle the score, to merit His favor, or to deserve the ultimate price of love He paid for us. He loves us just because we are His kids, the sheep of His pasture, His pearls of great price, the apples of His eyes. There is no gift we could ever give Him that could repay His love, except for one gift. We can give him ourselves, totally and utterly devoted to Him.
I think I'll slip on my "God Magnet" shirt so my devotion to Him keeps on making Him smile big at me as I bring Him pride and joy.
The First "Seizing the Moment" of the New Year
Day 2 of Photo Inspirations -- The First "Seizing the Moment of the New Year"
Three years ago, my New Year's resolution was to be on purpose, every day, to make Facebook my place of celebrating life, giving hope and inspiration, sharing God's faithfulness and expressing my great passion for sharing His love with others. I knew it was a "mission" God gave me, and I've been diligent to it for these three years. I am so appreciative to those of you who follow my posts daily. It is the exclamation point of God's voice to me.
I am passionate about seizing the moments and living with no regrets. This year, I'm taking my mission up a notch, by not only seizing the moments each and every day, but to capture it in photos. At least one a day for the next 365 days. That will be my mission -- but not just any photo -- one that has meaning and purpose and expresses God speaking to me and translating it to my FB friends in special practical ways. Today, January 1st -- was my first opportunity.
Hanging with two boys -- 8 and 10 years old -- certainly gives plenty of opportunities for adventures and to be inspired. Today, was no exception. What started out to simply take a photo of Lake Washington as my first photo of the year -- and express the awesomeness and majesty of God, ended up being a celebration of His creation.
It was a most magnificent, clear, cool day in Washington. You could see Mt. Rainer clearly in the distance, and the gorgeous Seattle skyline distinctly.
So it was a perfect day to seize the moments......and for Brennan to create more movies. Each of us were characters in his latest adventure film. People at the park were amused by our antics. Dusk was falling rapidly as we made our way to our car. I asked Brennan what he thought God was telling us about this day. He responded, "God's telling us that His creation allows us to be adventureous. He made this world for us to have fun and to love people."
And, suddenly the light came on -- earlier today, we had been inside watching TV, playing games, doing craft projects and it was a lot of fun -- but there is nothing to compare with all that God has in store for us when we step outside and behold Him and His marvelous handiwork. Unquestionably, watching the sun set, staring up in awe at the giant pine trees, walking in nature away from the hustle and bustle of human activity,
delighting in God’s animals and creatures (we loved the family of Golden Retrievers that joined our adventures). All of these things teach us more about God and draw us to praise and to worship him in deeper and better ways.
What a Masterful Designer, Architect, Builder, Craftsman, Creator, and Artist He is -- and today, His creation was our play place. It helped us burn a lot of pent-up energy -- but it inspired Brennan with another movie, and for me..... to make this day and year one to be remembered.....on purpose. Isn't it time to make God's creation your Play Space and Place?

An Entire Year of Awesomeness Awaits Us
Day 1 of Photo Inspirations -- An Entire Year of Awesomeness Awaits Us
A happy and blessed 2015 is my prayer for all of my FB friends today! Being with my two youngest grandsons made New Year's Eve so special. We had lots of fun making videos (or should I say, Brennan made videos).
The day before, we "undressed" the Christmas tree, but yesterday we made lots of homemade ornaments for next year's tree, and dressed this tree up again. We had a plan for New Year's Eve.
The boys popped little fire-crackers, we wore our Happy New Year hats and blew the horns,
we toasted each other with Sprite, we watched the giant ball of sparkles descend in Times Square, we had lots of goodies to eat, a cute movie to watch, got to Skype with the boys' Mommy & Daddy, and we prayed the New Year in together, and I stole some kisses from my boys.
Now, an entire year of awesomeness awaits us. The squares on our 2015 calendars are blank, but very soon those squares will be filled with lots of activities, events, ceremonies, birthdays, anniversaries and lots of opportunities for lexperiencing a year of great conquests, victories, and adventures.
There's something quite exciting about a clean slate, starting fresh, opportunities for "do-overs". We'll set new goals, resolutions, and hope for some major life-changes.
Each new day in our new year will be as fresh and white as new snow. Each and every day starts with God's fresh mercy and new grace. And those new days don't come in with the fanfare of this 1st day of the year. Typically, our days dawn quietly and peacefully -- a sunrise introduces us to our new day, and reminds us that God has given us another day to make a difference in our world.. We'll hear birds chirping, which makes us very aware of God's care for them -- and how much more does He care for us?
We don't know what tomorrow holds -- or this year holds -- but one thing we do know -- HE KNOWS and HE holds our tomorrows and, better yet, He holds our hands and is with us through them all. Our future is so bright. Let's purpose to wake each day to the prospects of what each day will hold by Him Who knows everything about everything -- and with that kind of ADVISOR -- if we pay close attention -- He'll guide us into making 2015 to be our best, most blessed year EVER!
