The Woes of Beachfront Property

For my grandson’s 16th birthday, we headed to Port Aransas for a celebration of gigantic proportions. We stayed in a beautiful beachfront property that had spectacular views of the ocean with a backdrop of gorgeous South Texas skies!

All was going according to our preplanned schedule of fun, food and all kinds of competitive beach games. That is – until the winds blew so strong that our game tents were about to lift off into the wild blue yonder. All of us were on deck, rather, on beach, to quickly take down the tents and move all our game paraphernalia and fun and move the party to higher and safer ground.

Thankfully, someone built the beachfront home we were staying in mighty strong. It stood the test of high winds and rains. But we were drenched as we hustled to get all our equipment, our food and party supplies into the garage. Good news – the party carried on with great fun and celebration in that well-built house.

Matthew 7:26-27 talks about well-fortified home building: “Everyone who hears these saying of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand; and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” Matthew 7:26-27

Max Lucado explains it this way:
“Obedience leads to blessing. Disobedience leads to trouble. Remember Jesus’ parable about the two builders who each built a house? One built on cheap, east-to-access sand. The other built on costly, difficult-to-reach rock.

The second construction project demanded more time and expense, but when the spring rains turned the creek into a gully washer…guess which builder enjoyed a blessing and which experienced trouble? Beachfront property doesn’t make for much if it can’t withstand the storm.

According to Jesus, the wise builder is “whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them,” (Matthew 7:24)

Both builders heard the teachings. The difference between the two was not knowledge and ignorance but obedience and disobedience. Security comes as we put God’s precepts into practice. We’re only as strong as our obedience.”

So, let’s NOT go for the lure of beachfront property built on sand. Let’s build our house on the Solid Rock foundation of our Heavenly Father! Satisfaction guaranteed!
