In Due Season, We Will Reap

Fall has arrived like a breath of fresh, cool air — and oh, how welcome it is. After a long summer of scorching heat, here we are watching God drape the world in brilliant yellows, fiery oranges, deep maroons, and golds that take our breath away.

Trees preach better than some preachers this time of year. They’re honest about change… and they’re beautiful while doing it.

Scripture reminds us that seasons aren’t random; they’re God-ordained. “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

That means our lives, just like the trees, move through rhythms — growth, shedding, resting, renewing. And every season has a purpose, even the ones we don’t prefer.

Genesis 8:22 reminds us that as long as this earth stands, “seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night… shall not cease.” In other words, God is faithful. The seasons will keep changing, and so will we.

Just like those leaves turning from green to glorious color, we are always in some kind of transition. Some seasons feel like the good times roll and roll — joy, laughter, peace, answered prayers.

And then comes the other side: the pain, the disappointment, the dread, the uncertainty. But hear this, dear friend: breakthrough is coming. It may not shout its arrival, but it’s on the way. God never lets a hard season go to waste.

When life feels like an endless summer — hot, heavy, and draining — fall shows up and says, “See? Change happens. Relief comes. Hope returns.” Jeremiah 29:11 reassures us: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you… thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” That’s God saying, “Don’t doubt Me. I’m directing your path.”

So as the leaves change with such predictability, so will you. In God’s timing. In God’s way. Don’t lose heart. Don’t faint. Galatians 6:9 gives us a promise worth holding tight: “In due season we shall reap if we faint not.”

Fall is God’s reminder that He still paints beauty out of transition, He still brings purpose out of change, and He still turns ordinary days into hope-filled possibilities.

And just like these trees… you’re about to shine in new colors too.
