You Are Loved, So Don’t You Dare Quit Now!

Some things just don't change.....but wouldn't it be great if they did? The first two kids, Cain and Abel, birthed from the first two parents, Adam and Eve, couldn't get along. In fact, their sibling rivalry led to the death of Abel. Fast forward to the dad, Jacob, and Joseph, his son (his favorite son -- okay, that's already screaming "TROUBLE"). Why would a dad ever favor one of his kids over the other? But he did, and little Joseph became the target of his 10 brothers -- to not just bully him but to kill him. Fortunately, their evil plot was thwarted.

Obviously, people issues -- judging, bullying, gossiping, jealousy, arguing, etc. have been a part of humanity from the beginning. It's unfortunate when we consider what all those "issues" do to people. That's why it's so important that we go to a higher level -- a place of love, concern, care, and compassion for each other. Jesus said, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Luke 6:31. And He reiterated, in John 13:34, “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other."

Maybe you're the one who is being judged and bullied or lied about. Maybe you feel like no one really cares about you and you think that you don't really matter. Here's the truth about MATTER:. YOU ARE LOVED! Don't let people get inside your head to make you think otherwise. You are loved. You are a one-of-a-kind original and no matter what you think and what others say about you, God loves you so much and you are His masterpiece. If you were the only person on earth, He would still have sent His one and only Son to pay the ultimate price for YOU. That's TRUE LOVE! He took the high road. It's time for us to take the high road, too.

The psalmist says that God formed you. Formed is defined as great care and special attention. It's the picture of a potter expertly crafting his art at the potter's wheel. You and I were formed by the Creator for a purpose. And everything God forms, He fills. He formed the seas and filled it with fish. He formed man and filled him with breath. God has filled you with unique gifts and talents. He filled your spirit with a longing for more. God has filled your life with a supernatural destiny. So don't believe for one more moment you have been overlooked or forgotten by God. Don't accept the deception that destiny and purpose are for other people and not you!

You really do matter! Don’t you dare think about giving up! YOU ARE LOVED. Now, get out there and own YOU and your place on this earth, at this time, to stand out and be the best YOU, you can possibly be!

The Golden Rule

As I watched some of the Kavanaugh hearings yesterday, I couldn't help but think about the words of Jesus to the accusers of the woman caught in adultery, "You, without sin, cast the first stone." As I type this post for today, Judge Kavanaugh's words resonate with me: "I ask you to judge me by the standard that you would want applied to your father. Your husband. Your brother. Or your son."

As a kid in "public" grade school, I remember that "The Golden Rule" was taught, and emphatically brought to our remembrance when one of us needed discipline. It set the tone for our respect and appreciation for each other. Our teachers would quote it to a kid who was a bully (yes, there were bullies back in those days, too) or to a kid who was disrespectful to their teachers or peers.

Oh. My. Goodness. Why isn’t “The Golden Rule” more prominent in our schools, workplaces, homes, politics – literally, EVERYWHERE, today? Whatever our religious or faith persuasions might be, what a difference it would make if we lived our lives with adhering to those beautiful words from Matthew 7:12 "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you." If we made those words the absolute non-negotiable in our lives, this world would be such a better place.

This Rule points us in a clear direction of treating everyone with dignity, honor, respect, and kindness which is the way we want to be treated. What if we sought out for others the same potential and possibilities which we seek for ourselves? What if we helped others as we would like to be helped ourselves?

If we want love, let us give love; if we want kindness, let us give kindness; if we want respect, let us give respect; if we want "innocent until proven guilty", let us judge others as "innocent until proven guilty". If we desire to not be judged, may we not judge others. The yardstick we use for others will be the yardstick which time will use for us.

"The Golden Rule," is indeed a biblical principle. Luke 6:31 also records Jesus saying, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” This statement is in the context of a lesson from Jesus about loving our enemies. Jesus led by example -- He treated people that way. Rather than doing to others what they have done to us or giving them what they may deserve, we are to treat them the way we want them to treat us.

If we lived by “The Golden Rule, just maybe we would be a conduit of living out Jesus' words as we treat others the way we want to be treated. "The Golden Rule" will be the best "rule of measure" we use daily to spread love and peace in our world.

God's Recovery Team -- Welcome to Oklahoma -- Birthplace of the BlizzaFloodQuakeNado

It warmed up to melt ALL that big snow (about an inch) in Tulsa and tomorrow, the weather guy is forecasting 70 degrees. Since Oklahoma was our home for 38 years, I can vouch for the authenticity of this sign in the photo, as well as the distinct four seasons that could happen in a week, accompany all those weather conditions. Sounds humorous, but we’ve seen some devastating results from those conditions. During those times, we witnessed the incredible humanity and rescue efforts of Oklahoma’s citizens.

I posted about the sprinkling of snow in Tulsa on Friday. I was so amused when this Facebook Group popped up in my newsfeed. "Oklahoma Winter Recovery" -- not because of the great idea of people helping people, but having lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada for seven years, with its 40+ below temperatures, over 30 inches of snow, and remembering that Winter Recovery there included plugging our cars’ heaters in at night, being always prepared to shovel snow off of cars and driveways, and dressing in many layers. The City of Winnipeg was resilient in handling the abundance of snow. Their snow remover vehicles had the streets cleared long before we needed to drive to work. I was also amused that the Tulsa schools were closed on Friday. If they did that in Winnipeg, school would be out for the entire winter.

This was a post I saw under the Oklahoma Winter Recovery Facebook Group -- **At this time, please only post a new thread if you or someone else is stuck. This will help to keep the page easier to get assistance to the motorist** When posting about a vehicle that is stuck, please make sure to list the location, make and model of vehicle and at least one good phone number (either yours or the stranded motorist if you personally know them). This will help in getting assistance more easily and quickly, and this way it will be known whether or not they have been rescued already, so that someone else does not head that way. If you have Google Maps on your phone, drop a pin. This will also help determine the exact location. Be excellent. Make good choices.”

Impressive, right? Technology provides for people helping people -- and caring enough about their fellow man that they set up a place for support and help during winter storms. Isn't that the mentality and heart for having an attitude to serve and help others.

Helping others is such a great diversion from so much negavity in social media, the news and even those who are bound and determined to look at the "glass half empty". Doesn't it makesense for us to rewind, reload, and shoot some straight arrows toward targets that sincerely make a difference. Instead of being relentless to look for something else to complain about, wouldn't it be great to refocus on matters that matter? Matters like doing what we can to serve and support each other; doing what we can to “love our neighbors as we love ourselves” (Matthew 22:39); and “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (Luke 6:31).

Just maybe our little caring "stone" could cause a ripple effect to a world that needs role models and examples of TRUE Christianity. TRUE Christianity is when our love for Christ is at the core of our life and He becomes so bright in us that we radiate that love and light to others in how we live, how we talk AND walk. So much so, that we can’t help ourselves….we see a need, we desire to meet it. We see someone hurting, we endeavor to ease the pain. We act like Him….He Who was willing to model “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13).

Maybe it's time when we ALL could enlist for being a recruit on God’s Recovery Team!

The Golden Rule

Day 264 of Photo Inspirations -- The Golden Rule
I remember, as a kid in "public" grade school, that "The Golden Rule" was taught, and emphatically brought to remembrance when one of us needed discipline.  It set the tone for our respect and appreciation for each other.  The teachers would quote it to a kid who was a bully (yes, there were bullies back on those days, too) or to a kid who was being disrespectful to their teachers or peers.

Whatever our religious persuasions and faiths may be, if we lived our lives adhering to those beautiful words from Matthew 7:12 -- making them the absolute non-negotiable in our lives, this world would be such a better place.

Yesterday, Pope Francis became the first pope ever to address a joint meeting of Congress.  Of course, on this historic day and occasion, this photo was most certainly my photo inspiration for today.

In his address to Congress, Pope Francis said, "Let us remember the Golden Rule: 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'.
This Rule points us in a clear direction. Let us treat others with the same passion and compassion with which we want to be treated. Let us seek for others the same possibilities which we seek for ourselves. Let us help others to grow, as we would like to be helped ourselves. In a word, if we want security, let us give security; if we want life, let us give life; if we want opportunities, let us provide opportunities. The yardstick we use for others will be the yardstick which time will use for us. The Golden Rule also reminds us of our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development."

I love this Pope.  I love his example of love and compassion for the poor and needy.....and he not only talks the talk, but walks the walk -- of expressing it in deed.  "The Golden Rule," is indeed a biblical principle. Luke 6:31 records Jesus saying, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” This statement is in the context of a lesson from Jesus about loving our enemies. Jesus led by example -- He treated people that way.  Rather than doing to others what they have done to us or giving them what they may deserve, we are to treat them the way we want them to treat us.

These words by Pope Francis rang loud and clear in my heart today.  If we take his lead, just maybe we can be a conduit of living out Jesus' words as we treat others the way we want to be treated.  "The Golden Rule" will be the best "rule of measure" we use daily to spread love and peace in our world.
