“Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
I used to think “be still” was like a child playing that old “Freeze” dance game. The music stopped and we’d freeze like statutes! But life has taught me otherwise. “Be still” isn’t about standing frozen like a statue. It’s not a call to become inactive or indifferent to what’s happening around us.
It’s an invitation to calm the inner storm.
The world shouts for our attention—news headlines, family needs, financial concerns, and those daily “what ifs” that creep into our minds at 2 AM. But God gently whispers, “Be still. Know that I am with you.” That “stillness” isn’t physical -- it’s spiritual. It’s about finding steady footing even when the ground beneath us feels shaky.
Being still doesn’t mean we stop moving forward. It means we stop panicking while we press on. We walk the path God sets before us, knowing -- deep in our bones -- that He is God, He is good, and He’s already in tomorrow.
God’s presence isn’t tied to how we feel. Whether we’re dancing through the best season of life or trudging uphill with tears in our eyes, God is right there. Our feelings may flicker like candles in the wind, but His faithfulness is steady as the sunrise.
So, what do we do with this call to “be still?” We pray, even when answers feel far away. We trust, even when the road seems long. And we act -- serving, loving, forgiving, and walking boldly in the purpose He’s given us.
Being still means we stop stressing but not stepping. We let go of control but never responsibility. We can face our day with the unshakable confidence that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble.
So, press on. Take the next step. And rest assured -- God is with you every step of the way.
