Gitty-Up and Give It to God

We sat in the La Cantina Restaurant in Puerta Vallarta, Saturday night. We were watching Texas Tech (Carl’s alma mater) play Cincinnati. We were pleased to be front and center to the big screen -- thanks to a kind DJ that runs all the sports screens. Yay! Tech won!

Though it was a great game to watch, I couldn't help but notice so many children there with their families. I was more captivated by the children around us and took photo after photo of them – as you can see here! I knew I was about to have a new blog subject.

These young ones -- dancing, hugging, smiling, and enjoying themselves -- some even sitting in saddle-like seats at the bar -- were full of energy and joy, completely in the moment. Thus, my "gitty-up" reference.

One minute they’re squirming in their seats, the next they’re dancing or off on some grand adventure in the corner of the room.

And you know what? No one seemed to mind. In fact, the daddies, mamas, and grandmas there were right alongside them, picking up the slack, joining in the fun, and savoring the joy of simply being together.

Watching those children reminded me of something so important! We could all use a little more childlike freedom in our lives. When did we get so wrapped up in worry, stress, and all the 'what ifs'?

God never intended for us to live this way. Jesus even told us, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3)

Just like those little ones couldn’t stay still, we’re not meant to be weighed down by our problems. God invites us to lay our burdens at His feet. He wants us to experience the joy and freedom of living as His beloved children.

As Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”

So, let’s do it -- let’s gitty-up and give it to God! Whatever’s been weighing you down, whether it’s big or small, take it to the Lord. He is ready and waiting, arms open wide. And just like those kids at the restaurant, once we let go, we’ll be free to run, play, and celebrate the life He’s given us.

In the words of that old hymn, “Take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there. If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out. Take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there.” Amen and amen!

A Picture Perfect Moment… and a Raccoon!

There’s nothing quite like celebrating our anniversary surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of God’s creation here in Puerto Vallarta.

The lush palm trees swaying gently in the ocean breeze, vibrant flowers painting the landscape with color, and the sounds of tropical birds singing their joyful songs remind me of how wonderfully creative our God is.

The other night, Carl and I had just finished a delicious Mexican meal at La Cantina when we sighted two sisters dressed alike and I asked if I could take their picture. They posed like this wasn't their first photo opt. But what I was going for -- really -- was the raccoon who was photo-bombing them! LOL!

That little furry faced raccoon was living in the beauty and kindness of those around him who were giving him treats after treats. He was tame -- unlike those who are ravaging through trash cans. This little guy was soaking in the splendor of it all.

Now, I’ve seen photobombs before, but this one took the cake! The raccoon, as tame as can be, seemed to pose right alongside the girls. I learned he’d found himself quite a habitat here, being fed and doted on by visitors who treated him like a little celebrity.

As funny and unexpected as it was, it reminded me of how God’s creatures, great and small, have their unique way of bringing joy into our lives. And, how God cares for them in such beautiful ways.

It’s moments like these that remind me of Psalm 104:24, “How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.” From the majesty of the towering palm trees to the playful antics of a friendly raccoon, God’s handiwork is all around us, inviting us to marvel at His creativity.

Just like that raccoon, sometimes we find ourselves in places we didn’t expect to be, showing up in someone else’s picture, bringing a little joy and laughter. So, whether we’re exploring new paths or just photobombing a moment, let’s remember to celebrate the beauty of life and the Creator who made it all.

Here’s to embracing the unexpected, finding joy in the little things, and always giving thanks for the masterpiece that is God’s creation.
Blessings from Puerto Vallarta!

Celebrating Love in God’s Masterpiece

Carl and I are blessed to be back in Puerto Vallarta, celebrating one year of marriage where our love story began—this time last year on our honeymoon.

There’s something about this place that feels like God’s canvas. The palm trees sway like worshippers in the wind, and the trails invite us to lose ourselves in the splendor of His creation. It’s a sanctuary of peace and beauty that reminds us of His majesty and love.

Last night, we were immersed in delight at the Rhythms of the Night show, a performance that truly celebrated the incredible gifts God has bestowed on people. From the breathtaking aerial trapeze acts to the dancers, singers, and musicians who seemed to weave a tapestry of talent and passion, it was a reminder of the Creator’s own artistry. Each performer reflected a piece of God’s creativity, their talents a testament to the divine image we are all created in.

Our evening began with a sunset cruise on a catamaran across Banderas Bay, a journey painted in hues of gold and orange, as if God Himself was wishing us well.

We arrived at Las Caletas, a secluded beach only reachable by boat, where the night unfolded in an open-air amphitheater under a canopy of stars. The show was a marvel of talent and special effects, reminiscent of the wonders and the warmth and spirit of Mexican culture.

After the show, we were treated to a romantic, candle-lit buffet dinner nestled on a hillside. A strings trio serenaded us with traditional Mexican songs, each note a whisper of love and joy. It was a night woven with laughter, wonder, and the palpable presence of God’s love.

In moments like these, we are reminded that every good and perfect gift comes from above (James 1:17). The beauty of creation, the joy of shared love, the awe-inspiring talents of others—all are reflections of His goodness and grace.

So, as Carl and I continue to celebrate this special milestone, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the love, laughter, and countless blessings that have marked this past year. Here’s to many more years of dancing in His light, marveling at His handiwork, and celebrating the gift of love He’s given us to share.

This is Just a Chapter

"Well, this is a fine mess!" Isn’t that what we think when life throws us for a loop? Like we’ve stumbled into the wrong chapter of our own story. But hang tight, because shattered dreams are the very pages God uses to write the most incredible comebacks!

We’ve all been there—broken relationships, financial upheavals, health struggles, or dreams lost. And in those moments, it’s easy to think, “Why me, Lord?” But remember, when it feels like everything is unraveling, God is still holding the pen, crafting a story that’s far from over.

Romans 8:28 promises, “All things work together for good to those who love God.” It’s a verse we cling to, not because it promises us a smooth ride, but because it assures us that even the rough patches are part of His divine plan. Our God isn’t in the business of quick fixes. He’s in the business of making all things beautiful in His time—even the mess we’re in now.

Just think about Joseph. Sold into slavery by his own brothers, falsely accused, thrown into prison—his life was like one bad chapter after another. It felt like he was stuck in the longest "To Be Continued..." of all time! But what did he say to his brothers when it was all said and done? “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20).

Those were not just words of forgiveness but words of faith in a God who specializes in plot twists!

So, what about your story? Maybe you’re stuck in a chapter that feels like a never-ending cliffhanger. But take heart! The Author of your story is still writing, and He’s good at turning tragedies into triumphs. You’re not defined by this struggle, this setback, or even this chapter. In fact, the very things that seem to be holding you down may be setting the stage for a comeback you could never imagine.

Tough times don’t last, but tough people do. We are tougher than we think because we have God’s strength to lean on. His peace will carry us when nothing else makes sense, and His joy will rise beyond the pain.

So, let’s keep turning the pages with hope. God sees every tear, hears every prayer, and He’s busy crafting the next chapter of our stories that are filled with resilience, overcoming, and even joy. This chapter isn’t the end of our story; it’s just the setup for the next one.

We will get through this—not by our strength, but by God’s unshakable, unfailing love. The best is yet to come. Stay tuned!

The Goodness of God

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of hearing Cece Winans sing “The Goodness of God”. It's not just a song; it’s my anthem, a reminder of all the ways God has shown up in my life.

I’ve already told my husband that when my time comes to leave this side of heaven, I want that song to be sung at my celebration of life. But don’t rush me! I’m not planning on checking out any time soon! There’s still too much of God’s goodness to sing about and live out!

When I look back on my life, I see His hand in every moment. He’s been with me through the healing of my children and my own healings, reminding me time and again of His faithfulness. It’s a faith that has kept me anchored, locked into His promises, no matter what storms came my way.

And speaking of storms, I remember the many tornadoes that swept through our property in Oklahoma. I could feel His peace and safety like a fortress around us. There were times I would whisper, “Lord, You are my refuge and strength,” and just like that, the fear would melt away. His goodness was—and is—my shield.

I’ve known love in abundance, from my late husband’s unwavering devotion to my sweet Carl, who has shown me that love truly does have a second act. Both men have been tangible reminders of God’s love for me.

And then, there’s the purpose He gave me with these blogs, a way to share hope, help, and healing with those who need it. That’s His goodness running after me, giving me breath to sing of His mercies every single day.

For friends and family who have been pillars of support, for daily bread on my table, for the privilege of worshiping in church, and for the strength to keep going -- how could I not sing of the goodness of God? His faithfulness isn’t just a line in a song; it’s the very fabric of my life.

So, as long as I have breath, I’ll keep singing. I’ll sing of the God who led me through the fire, held me in His hands, and never left my side. Because all my life, He has been faithful. All my life, He has been so, so good.

Please watch and listen to this song. I’m quite sure it will become your anthem too! God bless you my beloved friends.

“'Cause all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

A Walk Through the Word

I can’t help myself. I am now a proponent of the Museum of the Bible and sense I need to encourage my friends to make it a MUST-SEE experience. The Green Family that created Hobby Lobby and Mardel’s are the primary funders for this incredible project.

If you’re looking for an experience that will not only deepen your faith but also ignite your passion for the Word of God, let me introduce you to a place that’s more than a museum—it’s a journey through the ages, a walk through the very pages of the Bible itself.

Welcome to the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
Imagine a place where history meets technology, where ancient truths are illuminated with the light of modern innovation.

As soon as you step through the doors, you’re greeted by the sheer magnitude of God’s Word displayed in ways you’ve never seen before. From the very first chapter to the final verse, this museum takes you on a journey that will stir your soul and awaken your spirit.

One of the most captivating experiences is the virtual reality ride that literally takes you above and beyond. You stand, secured in place, as the ride lifts you over the nation’s capital. Below you, monuments, federal buildings, and memorials come to life, each one engraved with Bible verses that have been etched into the stone and steel of our nation's history. It’s a reminder that, even in today’s world, God’s Word remains a powerful, unshakable foundation.

But the experience doesn’t end there. Put on a virtual reality headset and find yourself transported to the ancient streets of Jerusalem. It’s almost as if you can reach out and touch the stones where Jesus once walked, feel the atmosphere of the Temple, and witness the passion of His final days. This isn’t just a tour—it’s an encounter with the living, breathing history of our faith.

The Museum of the Bible doesn’t just educate—it inspires. It’s a place where every turn of a corner reveals another treasure of biblical truth, where you can witness the miraculous preservation of God’s Word through the centuries.

From the intricate details of the Dead Sea Scrolls to the Gutenberg Bible, you’ll see how the Scriptures have been faithfully passed down through generations.

The heart of the museum, with the history of the Bible as a book, we found a full-sized replica of the Gutenberg press. An actor gave a demonstration of the press, printed off a page of the Bible from the intricacy of many individual letters on moveable type. The first printing of Gutenberg was about 160–180 copies that took 4–5 years. And, yay, I asked for that page the actor printed, she gave, and I received – soon to be framed!

I haven’t even touched all that the museum holds. We’ll be going back for more in the future. For anyone who loves the Bible, this is a pilgrimage worth making. It’s more than just a museum; it’s a place where your faith is strengthened, your knowledge is deepened, and your heart is drawn closer to the God who authored it all.

So, whether you’re a lifelong believer or someone searching for truth, go and see for yourself. Let the Museum of the Bible take you on a journey that will not only educate your mind but also transform your heart. Your walk with Jesus will never be the same.

The B-I-B-L-E -- yes, that's the book for me! I stand upon the Word of God -- the B-I-B-L-E!!! (Old song we sang in Sunday School.)

Live Fear-LESS

Fearless in these days and times? Get real, girl! Who can be fearless when the smallest fear (like a snake in a flowerbed -- that was my daughter a few days ago) to a friend's upcoming major surgery or another friend's livelihood being challenged after yet another setback keeps them from being able to earn a living?

I get it. There are plenty of reasons to be in fear about what tomorrow holds. But God has solutions for us to squash those fears.

We can be fearless. It's not a suggestion from God -- it's an actual command! Isaiah 41:10 says, “So DO NOT FEAR, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God..." God Almighty is our back-up and our back-up plan for being FEAR-less.

Clearly, God's solution for annihilating fear is Himself. He shows us how to be fearless. It is by trusting in His sovereignty and power which keeps us in peace when everything else in the world screams out for us to FEAR.

Let’s use FEAR as an acrostic -- “False Evidence Appearing Real". Reality tells us that so much of what we spend our time worrying about never even happens. Living under the weight of the "what if's" is a mighty heavy blanket to live under.

But let’s look at God’s prescription for fear. First step is to take God's Word into our heart and meditate on it as soon as anxiety shows up. I take that prescription, faithfully! I learned to call on the Prince of Peace (Jesus) to give me peace and I found it as I relied implicitly on what He promises in His Word.

In time, I began to find that the things that I once feared, no longer affected me. Change happened. Anxious thoughts disappeared. Worry released its constant grip. God's words became "life" words, soothing to my soul and calmed my spirit.

Let’s get real. If ever we could cave in to fear, these political times could give us reason. But NO WAY! I choose to guard my heart. I focus my mind on what is truth in the midst of uncertainty.

If you're relating to what I'm speaking about today, and FEAR has you in its grip, I urge you to take (like a prescription) God’s Word for worry and doubt. As many times a day as you can -- take God's Word in, speak it, pray it, meditate on it and grab hold of His promises.

~ Psalm 34:4: "I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears."

~ Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

~ John 14:27 "Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be ~ worried and upset; do not be afraid.”

~ Psalm 118:6-7 “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is with me; He is my helper.”

~ Isaiah 26:3 "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you."

Let’s “chill” with God’s peace and be FEAR-less!

For God and Country

Yesterday, we left Washington DC after having a most incredible time at the Museum of the Bible. Everywhere we looked, we could see how God’s sovereign and mighty hands has been upon HIS people AND our Country -- right from the time of creation.

We hopped aboard the plane to Lynchburg, VA. Once again, Carl’s daughter and son-in-law took us to another place where they are contributing to making life better for many.

This time it was to Valor Farm, Altavista, VA and the National Center for Healthy Veterans where Major General Bob Dees took on a project that has gone far beyond his many years of military service.

Our veterans have pledged their lives for our freedom, security, and prosperity. Healthy veterans are productive members of society, good employees, and positive role models, but not all our veterans are healthy.

The nine-month NCHV residential program is a golden opportunity to “get unstuck,” to move past trauma and transition challenges into a lifetime of personal and professional contribution and success. More than other mental health or suicide prevention programs for veterans, NCHV treats the whole person -- body, soul and spirit.

After orientation and assessment, Valor Farm “Patriots” move through three 12-week “trimesters” which focus on resilience, trauma recovery, and career preparation. Concurrently Patriots take electives based on personal needs and interests — equine therapy, financial literacy, family relationships, topical Bible studies, nutrition, sleep management, pain management, and many others.

As we walked up to the “Austin house” (shown here), the one that our Gates Family and other partners funded, we were filled with joy that another home would inhabit a veteran who has the potential of recovery and can return to their family and business.

Whether these Wounded Patriots suffer from physical, relational, spiritual, or emotional wounds, they are finding hope, help and healing with the NCHV programs.

And not only are they provided with a tiny home to live in for a nine-month period, they receive a faith-based, holistic approach to “Returning Healthy Veterans to America” in the natural healing environment of Valor Farm.

The Patriots are the Veterans who participate in the programs. They live and perform dignified work in the community while participating in resilience, trauma recovery, and career preparation programs.

At the NCHV every “shovel” full of effort contributes to getting ever closer to the God provided and God blessed treasure trove of hope, help and healing.

To say that I was sincerely touched by General Dees and his precious wife, Kathleen, says it mildly. At this season of their life, they could easily have retired and enjoyed the fruits of their labor. I tend to believe the NCHV ARE the fruits of their labor when they see these dedicated and loyal servicemen return to a life of wholeness and freedom.

Doesn’t it make us appreciate our veterans even more when we realize the least we can do is to show our respect to each one who willingly served faithfully for us?

A Journey Through HIS Story

This weekend, we were blessed with a surprise that left us in awe and gratitude. Months ago, Carl's daughter asked if we’d like to board a private jet and go with them to Washington D.C. to the Museum of the Bible.

And she said, “You won’t need to worry about walking too far to a hotel – we’ll be staying in the suites on the top floor of the museum!” We made it to DC and our suite and lo and behold, we had a beautiful view of the Capitol Building. It has been a most amazing blessing to be here! Oh, the goodness of God -- to have this experience we’ll never forget.

From the moment we stepped inside the museum, we were captivated by the profound history and stories laid out before us. Each exhibit seemed to whisper the grandeur of God’s hand throughout time, a testament to His unwavering love and faithfulness.

From the ancient scrolls to the beautifully preserved artifacts, we were reminded that this book, the Bible, we hold so dear, is not just a collection of stories, but the living, breathing Word of God.

One of the highlights of our visit was the Pilgrim’s Progress production. It was more than a play; it was an invitation to walk alongside Christian on his journey to the Celestial City.

As we watched, I couldn’t help but see bits of our own pilgrimage -- how often we’ve faced the Slough of Despond (a state of extreme depression or despondency). or stood at the foot of the Cross, letting go of burdens too heavy to carry.

It was a powerful reminder that, though the path may be narrow and the way difficult, we are never alone. God, our Creator, is guiding us every step of the way.

As we wandered through the museum, I was struck by the countless lives touched, transformed, and guided by the Scriptures. It reminded me of the apostle Paul’s words in Romans 15:4, “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide, we might have hope.”

This hope is what sustains us, especially in times like these when the world seems chaotic and uncertain.

My heart was full -- full of gratitude for the precious gift of God’s Word, for this beautiful experience, and for the reminder that His story, woven throughout history, is the anchor of our faith.

It was a day of wonder and worship, and I left more convinced than ever that His promises endure forever.

If you ever get the chance to visit this "heaven on earth" blessing, take it. Let it strengthen your faith, remind you of our Creator’s love, and encourage you to keep walking this pilgrim’s path with your eyes fixed on the Celestial City (heaven) -- our home sweet home!

Created for Moments Like This

I saw this metal wall hanging in a store. I took a photo of it. It spoke to me because I remember the birth of my children. I knew I was created to bring them into this world.

It spoke to me because there have been times when I encouraged someone to carry on and not give up. Maybe I was the one that helped save their life.

Maybe we gently and intentionally encourage others toward a relationship with Jesus Christ because we have a relationship with Him -- and what a difference it has made in our lives.

Maybe with a testimony of God's grace and abundant blessings in our lives causes someone to inch closer to Him. We don't have to force-feed them, but we do start to see a difference in the softening of their hearts.

I believe, in all of us, God placed potential and purpose for moments that assure us why we were created. Queen Esther risked death by her boldness as she spoke out for her people, Israel. Mordecai spoke this: “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Could we be hearing the same words? As children of God, every day we can suit up for our royal positions too! We belong to our King. We have been set apart. Christ died on the cross for us. We are not our own. We were bought with a price. Immersed in His truth, there should be no doubt in our minds that there is a purpose for us.

You and I are here on this earth right now, during these times, and it's not by accident that we ARE here for a greater purpose than "our four and no more".

What if we are supposed to be part of the solution in turning the tide of a crisis in someone's life, in our community's need for change, and in our world's need for hope. I know this....God's master plan for our lives includes us being a conduit of hope and peace to others.

We should feel honored that God purposed and planned us to be here RIGHT NOW, for a reason that's bigger than ourselves. What if He put us HERE to be His light in the darkness, to be the "chosen ones" to positively impact and make a difference in this world -- that so needs life and light?

Are we realizing that God created us "FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS" to be that life and light?

The Gift of Rest: A Divine Invitation

I'm exhausted with so much rancor and antagonism in our world. I had to turn the TV off because I couldn't take one more "He said, she said!"

I know exhaustion. I lived in it when my late husband was so very ill. That was 14 years ago. It was divine timing when a dear friend gave us this wall decor'. It was exactly what we needed then, and we need it now -- more than ever -- a sanctuary -- a place to rest.

In a world that constantly demands our attention, energy, and resources, it's no wonder many of us find feeling worn out and exhausted.

The weight of our responsibilities, as well as this world that seems like it is swirling out of control, can be overwhelming, leaving little room for the rest our souls desperately crave.

But there’s hope. God, in His infinite wisdom, knew that we would face times like these. He offers us a sanctuary, a place where our weary souls can find solace and restoration.

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus extends a heartfelt invitation: "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

This isn’t just a call to physical rest, but a deeper, spiritual rejuvenation. It’s a reminder that during the craziness and busyness, we must make time to retreat into God’s presence. Here, we can lay down our burdens and receive the refreshment our spirits need.

Taking the time to rest in God is not a sign of weakness but a declaration of trust. It’s saying, "Lord, I believe You are in control. I trust You to renew my strength and guide my steps."

When we come to Him, weary and worn, He doesn’t turn us away. Instead, He meets us with open arms, ready to fill our cups until they overflow.

So, if you find yourself at the end of your rope, remember that rest is not just a luxury -- it’s a necessity. God invites us to pause, to breathe, and to let Him restore what has been depleted. In His presence, we find the strength to carry on, renewed and refreshed, ready to face whatever lies ahead.

Need soul restoration? Let's let God "make us lie down in green pastures, lead us beside still waters so our souls are restored" (Donna's translation of Psalm 23:2-3).

Lights, Shine Bright!

Aw! The Corn Moon aka the Harvest Moon! What a beautiful sight to behold! We have been in awe of its beauty the last few nights! Didn't our Creator provide us with so much entertainment with His majestic and artistic abilities?

LOOKING UP to the night sky and seeing this moon brings me calm and comfort, especially when we consider all that is going on here on planet Earth. “Look up!” That’s a statement that we should all proclaim for ourselves and others! We should, 24/7, LOOK UP to THE ONE who put the stars and moon in place so that we would reflect Who we are looking to!

Isn’t it interesting that a brilliant moon, lighting up the entire night, is getting its light from the sun? It is totally dependent on the sun for that radiant light. I can’t help but think of how our relationship with our Creator is the same way. We are dependent on Him for our light. He is our bright light, and we are made to reflect His light.

Our world seems very dark right now -- especially if we watch the news! Oh, but there IS HOPE! May we remember that wherever there is darkness, there is also the brightest LIGHT of Christ. He pierced the darkness forever. He is THE LIGHT that will never fade and will never be overcome.

Christ is our ultimate LIGHT source, and we are called to reflect His light and to "shine, Baby, shine!" We don’t shine on our own. John 8:12 says “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

May God use us to be a blessing during these highly combative and perilous times. All of us can pray for the sun to shine again for those who need God’s light the most.

What a beautiful reflection you and I can be to a hurting world. May we use the opportunities He gives us to shine His light wherever we go. May His love and grace shine through us. May we shine with our words and our actions.

Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Let's remember that darkness cannot survive where there is light. So, shine bright, Lights, shine, baby, shine!

To Tell the Truth

For years, I enjoyed watching the classic television show "To Tell the Truth". The premise was simple but captivating. Three contestants stood before a panel, all claiming to be the same person with an extraordinary career or life story.

As questions were asked, two were impostors, leaving the panelists to discern who was telling the truth. In the end, the host would utter those famous words: "Will the real ______ please stand up?"

It was a moment of clarity—a line drawn between truth and deception. But as I reflect on that show today, I wonder, are we still asking that same question?

We live in a time when truth feels muddled, especially with accusations of dishonesty surrounding both presidential candidates. But this isn't just about politics. The question goes deeper: does truth-telling still matter, and is it a pivotal character trait that should be expected of all of us?

My lightening fast mind thought of George Washington, our first president's famous words: "I cannot tell a lie!" Shouldn't that be a statement we all should express and live by?

In a world where it seems easier to bend the truth or conceal it altogether, being a person of honor and integrity feels more vital than ever.

The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 12:22, "The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy." It's not just about what we say, but about living lives marked by honesty -- whether we're in politics or simply interacting with family, friends, or coworkers.

Today, we need real people of integrity to stand up -- not to impress, but to inspire. We all play a role in upholding the truth, no matter how inconvenient it may be. So, will the real person of honor and integrity please stand up? Please let it be me and you!

Our Divine Security Patrol

In a world filled with uncertainty, we are constantly reminded of how fragile life can be. By now, you probably know that last Sunday there was another attempt on President Trump's life. Lord, have mercy!

It was another chilling reminder that no one, no matter how powerful or protected, is immune to danger. That's why we best be placing our trust in He Who is our ultimate security provider.

Amidst headlines like these, we find comfort in knowing that our ultimate security doesn’t come from man-made walls or human protection. It comes from God alone.

The entire chapter of Psalm 121 reminds us that the Lord watches over us. "The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand." This powerful verse paints a vivid picture of God standing beside us, watching over every step we take. No political figure, security detail, or worldly power can match the strength of God's protection. He is the ultimate Guardian of our souls.

While it’s easy to get caught up in fear or anxiety when we hear news like this, God calls us to place our trust in Him. I pick up every penny I see on the ground because I am reminded that on it are these words: "In God We Trust"!

The truth is, there is no situation, no plot, and no threat that God cannot handle. But security in God isn’t just about physical safety --it’s about the peace that comes from knowing He holds us, body and soul, in His hands.

Whether in the highest office of the land or the smallest corner of the earth, we are covered by His love and grace. As we continue to pray for our leaders and the safety of our nation, let us also remember to rest in the divine assurance that God is our refuge, and His protection is eternal.

The Blessing of Two

There’s something divine about the number two. Just ask Noah, who mastered the art of the double as he herded every creature two by two onto that ark. And then, there’s Solomon who wisely penned, "Two are better than one” (Ecclesiastes 4:9).

God must have known how much my life needed a double portion of love when He blessed me with not just one, but two incredible girls, born 30 years apart on the same day, September 16th: Shawntel, my son’s precious wife, and my daughter, Staci's and bonus son, Larry's daughter, Alexia.

Now, picture this: the hospital room, September 16th, a moment so precious it felt like heaven and earth kissed. There was Shawntel, my beautiful bonus daughter -- hand-picked by my son and, I believe, hand-delivered by God -- holding my little Alexia for the first time.

Alexia, my only granddaughter among a troop of five boys, cradled gently in Shawntel’s arms. I have the picture to prove it. My two girls sharing their birth-day together!

Shawntel fills my life with so much love, joy, devotion, and care -- it’s like she was custom-made to fit into our family. And Alexia, my sweet granddaughter, surrounded by a sea of boys, brings a softness and sparkle to our family that only a granddaughter can.

But here’s the real kicker: these two remarkable women were born on the same day, decades apart. Coincidence? I think not. It's God’s gentle reminder that blessings come in twos. Whether it's two daughters, two hands to hold, or two hearts bound by love -- here’s strength, joy, and unending grace in those sacred pairs.

So, in honor of my girls and the God who knew exactly what I needed, I’m leaning into the beauty of twos. Just like Noah started, and Solomon affirmed, the power of two is one of life’s greatest treasures.

God bless you all, my beloved and dear friends! Thanks for sharing this special day with me! BTW – there are two separate birthday tributes to my girls on Facebook.

Let's Laugh About It

There’s a woman in the Bible who’s described as “clothed with strength and dignity,” and here’s the part I love -- she “laughs without fear of the future.” (Proverbs 31:25). I’d love to be that woman! Imagine, no fear, just laughing about what’s coming next.

Sure, we live in times that could make anyone bite their nails down to the cuticles. But I still believe God wants us to laugh, even now. And the key to that comes a little later in Proverbs, where it says this woman “fears the Lord.” Turns out, it’s that trust in God that sets her free to laugh without worrying about what’s ahead.

And then there's Kamala Harris -- whether you’re a fan or not, we can all agree the woman knows how to laugh! People get ruffled by her giggles, but here’s the thing: maybe she’s onto something.

While I can't speak for her, maybe her laughter is her own way of "laughing about the future." In a world that’s constantly throwing curveballs, why not deflect a few with a good chuckle?

Let’s face it, we could all use a little more laughter. Not the nervous kind that hides fear, but the deep, joyful kind that says, “I’m trusting in Someone bigger than the future.”

That’s what it means to fear the Lord -- not being afraid of Him but standing in awe of His majesty and love. And when we do that, we realize God holds our future, and suddenly, the urge to laugh comes naturally.

So, let’s be laughers instead of dreaders. Let’s stand in awe of God, trust in His steadfast love, and remember that He’s got us -- and everything else -- covered. It’s no wonder we can LOL about it all!

After all, “The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love.” (Psalm 147:11)

The Woes of Beachfront Property

For my grandson’s 16th birthday, we headed to Port Aransas for a celebration of gigantic proportions. We stayed in a beautiful beachfront property that had spectacular views of the ocean with a backdrop of gorgeous South Texas skies!

All was going according to our preplanned schedule of fun, food and all kinds of competitive beach games. That is – until the winds blew so strong that our game tents were about to lift off into the wild blue yonder. All of us were on deck, rather, on beach, to quickly take down the tents and move all our game paraphernalia and fun and move the party to higher and safer ground.

Thankfully, someone built the beachfront home we were staying in mighty strong. It stood the test of high winds and rains. But we were drenched as we hustled to get all our equipment, our food and party supplies into the garage. Good news – the party carried on with great fun and celebration in that well-built house.

Matthew 7:26-27 talks about well-fortified home building: “Everyone who hears these saying of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand; and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” Matthew 7:26-27

Max Lucado explains it this way:
“Obedience leads to blessing. Disobedience leads to trouble. Remember Jesus’ parable about the two builders who each built a house? One built on cheap, east-to-access sand. The other built on costly, difficult-to-reach rock.

The second construction project demanded more time and expense, but when the spring rains turned the creek into a gully washer…guess which builder enjoyed a blessing and which experienced trouble? Beachfront property doesn’t make for much if it can’t withstand the storm.

According to Jesus, the wise builder is “whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them,” (Matthew 7:24)

Both builders heard the teachings. The difference between the two was not knowledge and ignorance but obedience and disobedience. Security comes as we put God’s precepts into practice. We’re only as strong as our obedience.”

So, let’s NOT go for the lure of beachfront property built on sand. Let’s build our house on the Solid Rock foundation of our Heavenly Father! Satisfaction guaranteed!

Write the Vision -- Play the Movie

A few weeks ago, I spoke to my bonus granddaughter, Addie, about "playing the movie". She is determined to be a nurse practitioner. This is her high school senior year and she is already casting vision about her future.

"Playing the movie" is the practice of seeing the end before making decisions. It’s like “think before you speak or act”, because the outcome might be good or it can be very, very bad.

I encouraged Addie to "Play the movie!" That means being forward thinking about her future -- to be absolutely relentless in making decisions -- no wishy washy "maybe I will or maybe I won't" mindset.

To cast the vision is like "playing the movie" of envisioning the outcome before taking action. It’s also like the law of cause and effect. For example: "I would love to stay up and watch that TV special, but how will I feel tomorrow if I stay up late? Or, "This dress looks great on me, but how will it feel next month when I have to pay the credit card bill?"

What if someone "played the movie” before being tempted to steal that item from the store. Maybe "playing the movie" would keep them from making a bad decision that would cause them to go to jail, or even worse, to lose their family and reputation.

In the middle of an argument, we may want to blow off steam, but when we "play the movie" we'll ask ourselves "Where will this end up if I say that? Silence is golden. I'll choose silence."

What if Addie, our soon-to-be nursing student, couldn’t deal with so much studying because she wanted to have more freedom to hang out with her friends? BUT, she "played the movie"! She saw herself in the movie foregoing “the fun” because her future is far more important than the temporary fun.

She saw herself graduating nursing school and scoring that job in a well-known cardiologist’s office and she did so well that she soon became a nurse practitioner and achieved many awards and accolades.

Playing that movie would help her to stay the course and press through because it would be worth the sacrifice in the end.

What if they “played the movie” before buying the fishing boat on credit? Maybe the movie showed that they really didn’t have enough time to spend at the lake or the temptations it would be to miss church on the weekends or the extra hours that they would have to work to pay off the boat on credit and the hours away from the family because of those extra hours working?

I'm owning this concept of “playing the movie” because it gives me a reality check! Just maybe “playing the movie” can be a significant principle that will keep us on track in a positive way and keep us dialed into God's ways that are so much higher than our ways!

Proverbs 21:20-22 “The wise man saves for the future, the foolish man spends whatever he gets. The man who tries to be good, loving and kind finds life, righteousness, and honor.”

Learning to Lead AND Follow

It all started one Wednesday night at our church’s weekly family dinner. We overheard two couples chatting about their next dance class. We leaned in closer to hear more! Turns out, several couples from our church gather for a meal and then dive into dance classes.

Take that a “dance-step” further – we jumped into the conversation and “the dance”! Most every Monday night, you’ll find my husband and me -- yes, us – the oldest couple in the group -- taking dance lessons, too! BTW – no mix and mingle here -- one partner only!

The couple leading these classes has a love story that makes Hallmark look like amateur hour. They were on the brink of divorce when a counselor suggested they try dance classes to reconnect. And, it worked! Their marriage was restored, and now they’re teaching other couples how to dance -- and how to love again.

Their logo says it all: “As 1-ONE Dancing – where two will become one.” And if that doesn’t give you goosebumps, the back of their shirts might. His reads, “DARE to LEAD,” and hers, “TRUST to FOLLOW.”

Isn’t that beautiful? It’s a reminder that a man leads not just in dance but also as a Godly example to his family and others -- a leader worth following.

AND, for the rest of us – to TRUST the one(s) who lead us with Godly character and wisdom BUT, most importantly, to trust THE ONE, our Lord Jesus Christ Who is the way – the truth and the life AND, the greatest dance partner of all!

Each of our dance classes begins and ends with prayer. Lord, have mercy! We need that prayer. LOL! We’re learning the two-step and are having so much fun with lots of laughter and learning!

Let’s be real -- we won’t be appearing on Dancing with the Stars anytime soon. That’s okay! We’re not in it to win it, but we are learning that life – much like a slow dance and then a high-stepping upbeat dance is oh so sweet when we allow our Lord to lead on the dance floor of life.

He sets the rhythm, and as we trust Him to guide our steps, we find ourselves in the most beautiful love affair of all – following our Leader Who never misses a step!

“Let them praise His name with dancing and make music to Him with timbrel and harp.” Psalm 149:3
